Description

When distilling resumed in 1974, Caol Ila was the largest producer of single malt on the Isle of Islay. Unlike the water that flows into the southern Islay distilleries over hard quartzite hills, Loch Nam Ban’s source rises out of limestone and glacial deposits, which give the water a vibrant minerality that sets Caol Ila’s whisky apart from its southern contemporaries.

When setting up your account you chose "Other payment method" and you haven't yet provided us with the necessary information. The subtle flavours really explode, especially the pineapple in the 18, and make these whiskies exceptional. I’ve had whiskies that were ready to go as soon as the cork was pulled, and never changed much after the first sip. By using the Service, and by creating an account you represent, warrant and confirm that you are of legal age. However I did have the thought that it may improve with oxidation and I would put it to the back of the cupboard for a while and come back to it.

Caol Ila is the largest single malt whisky distillery, in terms of capacity, on the Scottish island of Islay, though it is perhaps the least well known. There’s a vaguely stale woodiness at the back of the mouth before this is rounded off by the lingering sickly-sweet flavor of overripe pineapple. I agree that we’re spoiled for independently bottled Caol Ila, both in terms of diversity and in terms of quality. With Water: The addition of a few drops of water seems to initially mute the aroma, requiring a rest in the glass. It's a beast, but sleek and sophisticated - if you add a few drops of water and give it time to air, you hardly feel the high ABV.However, the greater cask contact in a barrel means the first-fill oak has a bit too much influence here as well, making it more one-dimensionally sweet than I would like. You will defend (at our option), indemnify and hold harmless us and our parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, (sub)licensees, assignees, successors, authorized third party contractors from any and all loss, damage, claim, liability or expense (including reasonable outside legal fees and costs) actually incurred as a result of a third party claim arising out of a breach or alleged breach of your obligations, representations and warranties made herein. The balance of sweet and salty notes, along with a hint of citrus, creates a truly remarkable drinking experience. If no such law exists in a Member’s country of residence, the Member has to be over 21 years old to use the Service. The barley used is still malted in Port Ellen, the pure spring water comes from the nearby Loch Nam Ban limestone.

Most of the output doesn’t even get matured on Islay, being shipped in bulk to the mainland for aging there. Further, we reserve the right to modify, change, discontinue the Service, add or remove features, update the Service, change its appearance, temporarily and permanently, at any time, in whole or any part thereof. Caol Ila is the Gaelic name for the Sound of Islay, which separates the island from Jura in one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Scotland's West Coast. Overall: 18 years in oak has not seemed to dull the Caol Ila peat like it does in other Islay malts. The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein. In my experience, Caol Ila 18 and 25 both benefit significantly from sitting in an opened bottle for a few months. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law.Notes of honey, citrus, and oak blend together beautifully, creating a delightful sipping experience. The team has undertaken periodic reviews of other expressions, including festival bottlings like the 2016 Feis Ile release or the 2019 incarnation. We’ve also tackled numerous independent bottlings; the Samaroli single cask for Roscioli remains one of my favorite whiskies I have reviewed for this site.
