Description

Consider too the parents, librarians, teachers, and more who will object to this book on moral grounds. When a crusade is announced, it's unknown if the army with be operational when it reaches it's staging point. Units within a certain distance of a commander untit (depending on race) can then perform extra actions depending on their race. When he's not painting or writing, he likes to build things, dig in the dirt, and hang out with his chickens.

Battle Bunny is original, hugely enjoyable, and, in what it assumes about the nature of boys, slightly disturbing. Then an advanced copy of the book showed up in the mail and I took it to school to see what my students thought. Imagine your 7-year-old taking a pencil and creatively "editing" a children's book about a cutesy, woodland rabbit's birthday surprise party, and you have the premise for Scieszka and Barnett's wonderfully subversive (and intensely clever) "Battle Bunny.Battle Bunny is a schizophrenic book of fabulous proportions, and although Jon Scieszka, Mac Barnett and Matthew Myers all do great work, it is Alex who deserves ALL the praise. The original text is supposed to be an authentic feeling 1950s style story of a Bunny visiting all of his forest friends. While an action story for children can definitely be an engaging story, this one is seriously overdone.

Now that all that hype has died down, can we recognize what a good thing it is that she didn't get that skin? This title gets full points for its highly appealing "revision" to make a book absolutely kid appreciated. Book Eating Boy has a bite taken out of the corner of its cover, and we librarians spent half our days rescuing that title from the discard box thanks to our overly enterprising pages. Fans of Jon Scieszka will not be surprised to see his name on the cover, because this is a book which plays with its expected format and slyly comments on the nature of storytelling.Definitely one for reluctant readers who might like to see that books are not always what they are seen as being.
