Andertons Music Company acts as a credit broker and not a lender and only offers credit products from Secure Trust Bank PLC trading as V12 Retail Finance. As far as famous users go, lots of great players have used this pedal in the past, although I’m not aware of too many who still use it these days.

If you break it down into monthly payments over time, it's much more manageable than you might think. Authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. We don’t want you to have any nasty surprises when you receive a guitar from us so we do our own photography in-house. When compared to a Tubescreamer, the Boss SD-1 has more volume, and a greater presence of harmonics.

Looking inside, we can see that the old circuit, which used to cover most of the pedal’s footprint, has been shrunk down to just the section beneath the control knobs. I still have this pedal but I use it as decoration and sometimes I use it with batteries on my other amp rigs. You have the tried and true Boss sound that you have come to expect with some added custom features not available on the original models. As well as using the SD-1 as an Overdrive, its transparent tone perfect translate to use as a Booster. Adding some gain to a semi-clean guitar amp, you get a great boost without changing your amp's natural tone.

The pedal’s list of users is huge, but it is probably best known for its impact on hard rock and metal guitar during the ’80s, with notable examples including Ozzy’s post-Randy Rhoads players Zakk Wylde and Jake E.

Well, for one thing it means that the fundamental character of the SD-1’s sound is slightly different than that of a typical overdrive pedal. However, I generally only rely on it when it’s my own gig and I have the luxury of a decent time to set up and soundcheck. Works very well stacked up with distortions and is very clear and articulate when dialed in just right.

The clarity of notes still shine through with this pedal as the Boss SD-1 super OverDrive pedal doesn't over cook it! There is less definition with distortion as there are more overtones created because of the hard clipping. I read a lot of reviews and saw that a lot of professional players have used the Boss SD-1 at least once in their career. For most people, it usually takes up to an hour to assemble the piano and requires two able-bodied persons. The SD-1 will thicken up single-coil tones or enrich the harmonic content of humbuckers, it will excel with whatever you throw at it. The knobs look the same as they always have, but now the pots have D-shafts rather than being knurled. These pedals constantly survive the rigours of rock 'n' roll touring, and that's why they're seen at the feet of top touring pros everywhere. The SD-1 has never been associated with the same op-amp corksniffery as the Tube Screamer, so this bit might not be interesting. The SD-1 has been such an important pedal for guitar players that Boss has released a few variations of this timeless classic.

If you ever find yourself feeling a bit snooty about mass-produced BOSS pedals, just look at the Equipboard list of respectable musicians who've either got an SD-1 on their board right now, or have used one at some point. Those are obviously not my copyrighted material, and while I have tried to mostly use official product images, some may be from other sources. BOSS Build Quality - These stompboxes are famous for their tank-like construction, and the SD-1-B50A is no different. The SD-1 is known for its extremely transparent sound, which perfectly maintains your guitar’s natural tone and its positive interaction with your amp. The SD-1 is perfect for beginner guitarists looking for their first pedal, intermediate guitar players wanting to push their playing further and advanced players who wanted legendary tone.

Tip: Josh has used the SD-1 with a vintage Ampeg amp with a distinctive midrange peak along with a Boss GE-7 graphic EQ to further boost 400Hz. As it happened, in addition to the SD-1(C), I also had in my possession a new in box SD-1 of the ”classic” variety, so I quickly set both up to an A/B test.
