It is in this way, this tapped vein of manic creative energy, that I think comics have the potential for a sort of Secret Knowledge separate (and yet completely tied to) the cognitive associations that happen when language and visuals mix on the page, or whatever other high-falutin’ way you like to spin it when explaining to your high-falutin’ friends why you genuinely think comics are cool (as opposed to when you think comics are cool just because the NY Times or the Huffington Post has told you to think so.

And like, way to make a totally salient point and then miss the friggin’ point completely when a book like JUSTICE comes along. Bottom Line : This is a more realized collaboration between Alex Ross and Jim Krueger than Marvel’s Earth X (ugh! It reminded you of what you were familiar with, but he could remix a character or a concept into an entirely new and intriguing one. Heroes often get watered down a bit so that others can shine or some heroes get little to no attention and feel unnecessary.Marvel uses the speed of Mercury to catch up to the Flash and knocks him off balance with his magic lightning bolt. By incorporating this many characters into one story it’s almost impossible to budget time appropriately and still make an interesting story. I don't care about helping them celebrate the things they already like, for reasons they wouldn't care about anyway. Red Tornado eventually finds clues that might lead to Aquaman's location, but is surprised by a traitor among the Justice League's ranks, who destroys him and gives Grodd access to the Watchtower's computers and its members' secret identities. If you’ve already done that, your item hasn’t arrived, or it’s not as described, you can report that to Etsy by opening a case.

But e members of the fabled Justice League of America are about to learn they aren't the only ones who can band together toward a common goal. John Stewart is given Jordan's ring and uses it to erase the heroes' secret identities from everyone's minds and to destroy the worms. His most recent major work was Mother Panic for DC’s Young Animal imprint, and it was the only one of the series in that line I enjoyed and read monthly. Turns out, they really had some twisted sense of goodness but you know, our good guys are on the far good of the spectrum, so they fought the bad guys and eventually won.

And then you put them all in the same room and everyone needs to have a line of dialogue and somehow have that dialogue reflect their character or whatever and it all gets a little, you know, sad, and overblown, and kind of every bad stereotype about superhero comics gets played out in horrible, exacting detail. The final chapter has Aquaman explaining his entire adventure for the first time which may have been an nice refresher for readers of the monthly issues, but for someone like me reading the book all in one week it felt very redundant. Toyman, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and Captain Cold help solve the world's greatest problems, like hunger and physical disabilities, which turns public opinion against the Justice League. That’s certainly how Lex Luthor sees Superman and I’m pretty sure a lot of the others feel the same way.

Ross and Krueger lack the ability to focus the script on the necessary moments, and the result is long, dull scenes that don’t impact on the larger plot and make Justice quite the slog if the art alone isn’t enough. This story uses the bronze age of comics iterations of the Justice League and the Legion of Doom and is one of the best example of how stories from that era tended to be like (when they weren't using social commentary).
