She finds Luc waiting for her there, but before he gets a chance to talk, Evangeline feels a terrible pain in her back and realizes Apollo is being tortured and whipped. I can’t fully explain the feeling of reading this series other that it’s painfully beautiful, extra pressure on the painfully part sometimes. The book also contains an entry on Glendora Slaughterwood, and Evangeline realizes the hidden corridor she was in earlier with Jacks leads to Glendora’s tomb. Over food, she talks with a young woman named Petra Youngblood, and in the meantime, Jacks steals off with one of the flirting girls.

More pieces fall into place for Evangeline as she sees Castor did not die in the Slaughterwood attack on House Merrywood and that the Valor family had not created a monster to avenge his death – Castor had become the monster.winning at love was less about succeeding in a battle and more about continuing to fight, to choose the person you loved as the one you were willing to die for, over and over. They remain mostly unread because their words change each time they are opened due to the story curse that hides the truth about the Valor Arch. It is a passage to Valory, and there are conflicting accounts on what it is, precisely: it is either a treasure chest with magical gifts or a prison locking away dangerous, magical beings. and one of those scene was golden, jacks himself nursed her back to health🥹 the softness in jack was so sweet and everything help.

The relationship between the two develops further as well and there is angst galore that hurts so good. The book starts off with a letter written by Evangeline, the pink-haired girl whose blood opens any door. with danger lurking at her heels, evangeline chases the happy ending she still longs for, realizing soon enough that it may not be exactly how — or with whom — she imagined it to be. Yeah he could eat alll of those cute words he said before up and obliterate himself with them for all I care. Jacks finds her there, overcome with grief and guilt, and tells her to pack her bags while he deals with the body so they can run for her safety. She realizes that if he doesn’t want the stones to open the arch, he must be after the power of the stones themselves. Evangeline refuses but realizes all the great houses will be present at the party, wondering if any of them possesses one of the stones and if they might take it to the party. The story curse was familiar with pain, but this was agony, the sort of raw grief that was only seen once in a century. But here I have to make a disclaimer that though I am forever team Jacks I couldn't help but notice the amount of sexy men in this book! they birthed me, raised me, breathed life into me, drove me to school, fed me, stuck my artwork on the fridge, read me bedtime stories, sent me to college, walked me down the aisle and transformed me into the person i am today.

She takes it with her and goes back to her room, where she sees Petra secretly leaving Jacks’s room, but when she goes to check in on him, he is not there. There were some pretty startling reveals about several supporting characters, though, so I’ll be intrigued to see where those plot threads lead in the finale and how they impact the characters.

It depicts a little dragon with the luck stone, a skull for the truth stone, the mirth stone atop a flower garden, and the youth stone with a fiery shield. When Jacks takes Evangeline to the hollow and she has the youth stone and the youth stone also makes people tell the truth.
