About this deal

Likewise, the minimum aperture is a stop smaller. If the lens stops down to f/22, it will stop down to f/32 with this converter. Also, I wonder whether a TC might improve the performance of a given lens on a low-MPx body, where the lens out-resolved the sensor, yet degrade performance on a high-MPx body, where the sensor out-resolved the lens. AF NIKKOR lenses (those which do not have a built-in focus motor) are not compatible with the current AF-S teleconverters but may work with older manual models. (AF-S lenses are those with a built-in focus motor.) Some of the newer NIKKOR lenses can also be used with older manual focus teleconverters with limited compatibility. Functional limitations include having to manually focus the lens, shoot in manual exposure mode only, and require an accessory exposure meter due to the camera’s built-in exposure meter being rendered inactive. Vignetting or other visible image defects may also occur.

In some cases when using slow zoom lenses with a teleconverter, or when coupling several teleconverters together, image degradation can be so severe, that one might be better off cropping images in post-processing. In cases where autofocus functions are severely impacted and limited by a teleconverter, it is sometimes better to use a shorter teleconverter or drop the use of a teleconverter completely. What is better – a magnified out of focus subject, or a sharp subject with less resolution? That’s something you will have to assess and evaluate when using teleconverters, on a case-by-case basis. Phases of Total Lunar Eclipse Different manufacturers provide different markings on their teleconverters to make it easy to attach it to a camera or lens. Nikon, for example, has either a white line or a round dot on both sides of its teleconverters, as illustrated in some of the product images of this article. It becomes compatible with the new tele converters once the lens firmware is updated to Ver. 1.02 or later. When the new SIGMA TELE CONVERTER is attached to cameras that are compatible with AF at F8, it is possible to shoot with AF. Finally, some third-party lenses may technically mount to the Nikon Z teleconverters without the lens elements bumping into each other, but note that there is a tab on the Nikon Z TCs to prevent them from attaching to unauthorized lenses. Years ago, some photographers were crazy enough to shave off this tab on Nikon’s F-mount teleconverters as a workaround. Even if you could do the same on the Nikon Z TCs, needless to say, I would strongly recommend against it. Build Quality and DesignI wouldn't use this with the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, which becomes a 100-280mm f/4. Instead I use the Nikon Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR all the time. This way I can get to 400mm simply by twisting the zoom ring, no converter needed, and if I need longer than 400mm, then and only then will I use this converter and get to 560mm. I haven't used 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses for a couple of decades now for this practical reason. As you can already tell, some teleconverters have serious disadvantages that you have to keep in mind. Aside from lens compatibility and cross-brand compatibility issues, teleconverters decrease the overall sharpness of the primary lens, magnify its lens aberrations, and reduce autofocus speed and accuracy. This is especially true for 2.0x and longer teleconverters. You’ll certainly lose focusing speed by adding either of these teleconverters, and the 2.0x TC has more of a slowdown than the 1.4x TC. Technically, though, the biggest decider of focusing speed is not whether you’ve used a teleconverter. Instead, it’s the maximum aperture of your setup and the level of light in the environment. NIKON D3S + 300mm f/2.8G VR II @ 510mm (1.7x TC), ISO 1600, 1/800, f/8.0 Teleconverter vs Cropping in Post The U. S. A. warranty card comes from Nikon, Inc., the U. S. The Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x extends the reach of compatible NIKKOR Z lenses without weighing down your bag. From wildlife to action and dramatic vistas, you''ll be able to capture more from a distance. All while enjoying the superb image quality and focusing speed you''ve come to expect from Nikon Z. Pincushion distortion is increased ever so slightly, with only 0.719% present. Without the converter, Imatest detected 0.239% pincushion distortion at 200mm. My Nikon system works as well with or without this converter, which means this converter is doing what it should.Let’s take a look at the sharpness of these two teleconverters in various situations. Teleconverters always lose some degree of sharpness – the question is how much.
