About this deal

As a consumer with relatively little desk space, I wanted a mechanical keyboard that had separate arrow keys and a design that looked nice.

However, I seems pretty hard to replace the keycaps since they're so stiff with less space between them. Perfect for work, now I just need a matching numpad and its the perfect setup for what I need it to do.I own several 60-80% mechanical keyboards of different brands - the thing that I appreciate about the Vortex Race 3 the most is that they have fit TKL into almost the size of a 60% format. If you need a complete programmable keyboard, the Race 3’s value proposition is difficult to argue with. Vortex's site only lists the New Race 3, not the original, and nothing in the listing for the New Race 3 explains what is new about it.

Both for gaming and writing I need arrow keys and having them not hidden within layers it wonderful especially since they don't add to the foot print of of the keyboard. I did bottom out here, although it is fairly easy not to do so with Cherry MX Blue switches if you practice. We're still in programming mode, now hit L3 (LED blinks red), then L2 (LED blinks red), then Pn (LED shines white) to finish second move. This was a massive wall of text, and may have led to a lot of readers losing interest in the product. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. This is likely a result of this sample having RGB switches and SMD LEDs onboard, and I do not believe the base non-backlit version will have the same components.

Powering the Vortex Race 3 is an Holtek HT32F1654 microcontroller, a 32-bit Arm Cortex USB controller with up to 64 KB of onboard flash memory and 16 KB of SRAM. By default, you are in layer L0, which is not programmable, and what you see on the keycaps out of the box is what you get. I'll say first and foremost that the build quality is excellent in my novice opinion, with the case being all aluminum it adds a nice weight and sturdiness for typing. The dye sublimation itself is very well done, better so than on my previous CORE sample, and the legends will as such not wear out before the keycaps themselves do.
