The Decathlon Quechua Ultima is a comfortable mattress at a pretty reasonable price point. It’s not the cheapest double and it’s not the most expensive. Would we like a little more cushioning, say 10cm total? Well actually we didn’t really miss those extra 2cm, and the great insulation really made a difference on a cold autumn night. We slept very well, with none of the ‘sleeping bad sliding’ you get on some smoother SIMs. For real additional comfort to the Ultim you need to be looking at a 15cm SIM such as the Outdoor Revolution Skyfall or similar.
Vango has many tents in the Odyssey series, some are with classic solid poles and some are with inflatable beams. You can see this Vango 6 Person Odyssey Air 600 Tent as a great example of the tents with inflatable beams. This metric is always the equalizer, as many tents make sacrifices in their pursuit of comfort, durability or weather resistance.

Measuring 198 x 130 x 7.5cm, the Deluxe offers a sufficient length of 6ft 6” which should be ample for most of the adult population of the world – apart from Sultan Kosen perhaps. For those that don’t know, he’s the current world’s tallest man! The sewn in groundsheet is great, when it rains (oh and it did!) the tent did nont leak, nor did any seep into the tent from the bottom. The Vango Odyssey 500 is made using Protex 3,000HH polyester that is durable. It is also waterproof making it ideal for all year round. The groundsheet is made using polyethylene 10,000HH that is comfortable and strong enough for pitching on almost all terrains. The factory taped seams on both the flysheet and groundsheet have been known to provide the best water tight seal. It also has an Airspeed Valve system for inflating airbeams with less effort.
When a zipper is running smoothly, use a dry PTFE spray or silicone spray. Do not spray onto the cloth and preventively spray to prevent future problems. Likewise, the Vango Odyssey 800 tent will be even heavier. However, this wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been. While the tent does lose some structural integrity from the absence of tent poles, it also means there is no chance the poles themselves will puncture the tent fabric if something heavy falls on the tent. The pre-angled beams are straight on the sides, so the tent looks like a tunnel-cabin hybrid. But I have included it in my list of best tunnel-type tents.The floor: You have a fully sewn-in and sealed waterproof PE groundsheet. This is a very robust and hard-wearing fabric to stand up to the rigours of the most active campers. So you have full protection from bugs and from groundwater. The Shangri-La is for all intents and purposes a proper mattress when it’s fully inflated. It has vertical side walls to maximize the top-level surface area and this means that you don’t roll off in the night. This tent provides excellent and comfortable camping in all seasons, though it’s best used from late spring to early fall. The KingCamp is undoubtedly fabricated from decent materials – the two valves on the SIM are brass which is a nice touch and differentiates the Deluxe from other SIMs which rely on plastic. The question of camping with your partner using a double bed/mattress vs 2 x singles is a perennial one. We’re not here to tell you what to do on that score – it’s definitely a case of horses for courses.
