About this deal

I have yet to refit the radiator and fill with water which will be the ultimate test, however I happened to notice that the nut of the radiator tail bound slightly when it was rotated around the tube of the radiator tail, which was not the case before I make it up ?? Standard rad tails tend to measure at 15mm, in line with the most common pipe size also being 15mm. Refit the tail and tighten with an adjustable spanner (make sure it’s very tight or it will leak, add more PTFE if it’s not tight enough) Yes, a leaking radiator valve can be repaired. It might have to be replaced, but most of the time a leaking radiator valve can easily be repaired with an adjustable spanner. Is a leaking radiator valve an emergency? A leaking radiator valve nut is the most common and easiest leak to fix on a central heating system. 3 radiator valves nuts that can leak

What's OP? "¾" thread of the union nut" - that makes sense, but am I looking to replace the radiator tails as well then? What am I going to do if I measure the hole, aren't I going to attach the valve to the tail anyway? As has been said above, it'll either leak or it won't. If it seals, it seals. So, pragmatically, your options are:

How do I know if I need a radiator tail extension?

If it’s leaking from a nut on the bottom or side of the TRV, then you should follow the process above for a “ leaking radiator valve nut“. Radiator Drain Valve Leaking The male thread is 1/2 inch BSP (normal size for the connections on a radiator) the tail has a compression nut and olive (included) to suit a valve with a 15mm compression type outlet. I first inserted the new radiator tails in the ends of the radiator dry to gauge how far it they would go when tightened up.

A thermostatic radiator valve leaking water from the pin has to be replaced, but if you want a temporary fix, you could try turning the radiator off when it leaks, as this might help until you replace the radiator valve. If you have a radiator valve leaking when turned off, then you could try opening the valve slightly to see if it stops. If this doesn’t work, you should add some plumbing jointing compound to the threads on the leaking nut. Tails do not have an end, so you can screw them as much as you want, if the thread is not sealed, they will leak.To fix a leaking radiator drain valve, you will need to replace the rubber washer seal inside in most cases. If the bleed screw is sitting in a bigger nut, then you can try tightening the nut with an adjustable spanner.

Sometimes you can replace the leaking thermostatic radiator valve gland seal on certain valves (Danfoss and Drayton do some) but you’re better off replacing the valve. You should definitely get a leaking radiator valve fixed as soon as possible, as water damage can really mess things up if left for any length of time. Can a leaking radiator valve cause boiler pressure to drop? I understand that the fitting on the radiator is 1/2" BSP, while the radiator tails are 1/2" Taper Thread. You are confused by the pipe sizes! Screwed iron sizes are based on the internal bore of the pipe so a 1/2" pipe will have a thread which is 3/4 o.d.

What brands make high-quality radiator tail extensions?

If you have a leaking thermostatic radiator valve (TRV), and it’s coming from the pin at the top of the valve, then you will probably have to replace the full valve. I've never been in your situation, but I have seen a plumber using ls-x on both threads (radiator and tail) as well as the ptfe tape.
