About this deal

This is a credit to Walker who stamped his savage vision on a witch's brew of a film that is one quarter horror, one quarter suspense, one quarter giallo (the Father Cutler, Miss Brabizon, Mrs. Meldrum revelations - some dark secrets from the past are responsible for the twisted actions of the present) - and one quarter brutal social commentary. It's almost as if he could see into the future, or maybe he knew what only a few people did, but this was a time well before the truth came out about the perversions which The Church… This surprised me by its sense of urgency - the writer-director had a point to make and did - with a straight ahead drive, never straying from powering the plot along with extraneous moments. I'd have guessed its running time to be less than 104 minutes.

House Of Mortal Sin — British Horror Films

All through the film there are some lovely touches - Sheila Keith is awesome as Meldrum's one-eyed housekeeper, threatening his infirm mother ("He's gone out again, I'm afraid… you're all alone again… with me") and simply raising one eyebrow on surveying the scene following the rosary bead strangulation. In this movie Pete Walker continues to demonstrate that he, along with the equally great director, Norman J. Warren, were the natural successors to Hammer, Amicus and Tigon. The three companies in question had dominated the British horror movie industry for over a decade, having made some truly superb productions. All three had ceased to produce horror movies at this point, paving the way for the two mentioned excellent directors to make independent movies now rightly appreciated as minor classics of low-budget cinema.

House of Mortal Sin 1975, directed by Pete Walker | Film review

I wanted to revisit some of Pete Walker's filmography because it's been over a decade since I've seen any of his '70s horror films and when they popped up in Arrow's "last chance" streaming section it was time to jog my memory. I may have remembered some of the movies more fondly than I should have and I blame this entirely on how much I love Sheila Keith. While I will freely admit House of Mortal Sin is the better movie, I preferred her character in Frightmare, something about her as a deranged cannibal satiating loneliness with reading tarot cards for other lonely souls while also devouring their flesh suited her more, she had fun with that role but performed… Christopher Garetano The South Texas Blues Interview: How Tobe Hooper Created the Ultimate Drive-In Horror Film November 16, 2020Grave sins against chastity differ according to their object: adultery, masturbation, fornication, pornography, prostitution, rape, and homosexual actions. These sins are expressions of the vice of lust. These kinds of acts committed against the physical and moral integrity of minors become even more grave. The imposing actress Sheila Keith (happily) commands the screen whenever she is in the frame. In a role quite different from the petulant but vengeful cannibal of FRIGHTMARE, she is oddly affecting as the would-be bride of the killer priest who has waited chastely by his side all these years - though of course her affect (and that great eye patch) add sinister touches. The death throes of those who inhabit this house of mortal sin would live up to any horror or giallo fan's dreams. This sin destroys charity in us, deprives us of sanctifying grace, and, if unrepented, leads us to the eternal death of hell. It can be forgiven in the ordinary way by means of the sacraments of Baptism and of Penance or Reconciliation. See as well Catechism of the Catholic Church nos. 1855-1861, 1874.

House of Mortal Sin - Wikipedia

Along with the sinister Meldrum, (who has more than a little Norman Bates about him) McGillivray also fills the Meldrum's church with a number of shadowy character's who are more than happy to get hold of a razor blade, the moment that they risk being exposed, with Shelia Keith's tremendous, stern performance as Meldrum's aide Miss Brabazon being a particular highlight,as Keith shows Brabazon a deranged, almost totalitarian military general, who is willing to do anything to protect her captain.I bought this movie as part of the Pete Walker Collection, a wonderful coffin shaped boxset containing this movie, along with FRIGHTMARE, THE HOUSE OF MORTAL SIN, THE HOUSE OF WHIPCORD and DIE SCREAMING MARIANNE. The said boxset is loaded with extras and is a must have for any fan of the director's movies. Blasphemy, curses, unfaithfulness to promisesmade to God, false oath, perjury. Compendium 447-449; CCC 2142-2149; 2160-2162 If there is anything to quibble about it would be the younger priest's believing Father Cutler's every word and hurriedly renouncing the thought of not continuing in Cutler's shoes. But better than having him run to the police accusing Cutler. There is now the implication that evil will grow in his own church garden. A Catholic priest who gets his jollies from listening to confessions, becomes obsessed with one of the young women who opened herself up to him.

House of Mortal Sin (1976) | Blu-ray release – This British

HOUSE OF MORTAL SIN (aka THE CONFESSIONAL MURDERS) is a highly underrated British horror movie directed by Pete Walker. Lying(in some cases CCC 2484), false witnessand perjury(CCC 2476 ), rash judgment, detraction, calumny(CCC 2477) , adulation(CCC 2480), violation of the sacramental seal(2490) and divulgation of professional secrets(2491)Everyone knows—or almost everyone does—that there are morally good actions and morally evil actions. But when is an action not only wrong, but sinful? And particularly mortally sinful? After all, as St. John says, “all wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal” just as “there is sin which is mortal” (1 John 5:16,17). A mortal sin is one that “destroys in us the charity without which eternal beatitude is impossible. Unrepented, it brings eternal death” (CCC 1874). That’s what makes it “mortal,” or deadly: it cuts us off from God forever, unless it is “redeemed by repentance and God’s forgiveness” (CCC 1861). Pete Walker’s gory, violent horror in which a priest becomes obsessed with a girl that confesses to him and will stop at nothing to get her. Starring Anthony Sharp and Susan Penhaligon. Paced nicely with some solid kills and some standout tension despite limited resources, House of Mortal Sin features a doozy of a turn from Anthony Sharp as a obsessive murderous priest who’s just keen enough to go under the radar when it comes to investigative suspicions despite spitting out ramblings of an overbearing delusional maniac who gets his ya-ya’s off while overseeing confession. Haven’t watched this in quite a long time and it was just the late night excursion into seedy giallo-esque trash that I needed. Unleash the Savage Instincts: The Melting Toupee of Ray Milland: David Del Valle Talks Frogs (1972) March 2, 2018 Anthony Sharp plays the lecherous Fr. Meldrum. A sadistic, wretched, corrupt, homicidal individual who probably couldn’t have been portrayed any better than what Sharp accomplished. He is truly despicable. Unfortunately for our protagonist, Jenny (Susan Penhaligon) - destiny had it in for her. After an uncomfortable encounter at the confessional, she is subsequently harassed, intimidated and threatened with extortion. So Jenny does the right thing and comes forward accusing the priest of his immoral inclinations. And of course — no one…
