The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your…

I have always been made fun of by my mother, my daughter, ex-husband, friends and roommates over my need to have things contained by type and the labeling of each. (Don’t mess with mamas paint pens or label maker). Overall, the steps in their method (edit, categorize, contain, and maintain) is very practical to follow. The book will reiterate over and over again that you should do these steps but gives very little detail on how to do them. Literally every other organizing book I’ve read digs deeper into these concepts. The authors also spends a good 1/3 of the book just chatting about themselves, their famous clients, and how much they each love organizing. Granted, it was in a cheeky, entertaining manner, but for my personal wants and needs it took waaaayy too long to get to the substance of the book. Eva Longoria moves her son into a big-boy room and wants to revamp his closet. A family of five needs help with a kitchen bursting at the seams. Both of these books are on loan to my mom- We lost my dad this month and I knew these books would help give my her some Ideas. Going through my dads things/ donating and giving away is something I don’t know how we are going to deal with. How do you remove the things that belonged to the love of her life, her husband of 53 years. I am going to be by her side every step of the way but I don’t know how I’ll manage... My dad was my hero! It may sound strange, but I know these books will give us both some joy to look forward to... My mom deserves to have a pretty organized home.Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, authors of 'The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals, ' have taken a rainbow approach to organization inside the homes of celebs like Khloe Kardashian and Gwenyth Paltrow." -- Good Morning America
