About this deal

Truly marvellous! As compelling as it is stylish, Sister exists in that rare place where crime fiction and literature coincide." - Jeffrey Deaver

Perhaps a bit of a minor point, but Tess's body lies undiscovered in a Hyde Park toilet for five days...? Is it really plausible that nobody would have gone into the building in all that time, especially since a young girl was missing from the local area and the case was being publicised heavily? Though her family and the police see a grieving sister in denial, unwilling to accept the facts, Bee uncovers the affair Tess was having with a married man and the pregnancy that resulted, and her difficultly with a stalker who may have crossed the line when Tess refused his advances. For years Rosamund Lupton has been a script writer for the BBC. She lives in London with her husband - a doctor - and two children. Sister is her debut novel. Visit her at rosamundlupton.com. Hello! My name is Dorota Galeza and I am a writer and a blogger. I also hold a first class law degree from Hull University and an LLM with distinction from Manchester University. Every person attending a funeral has his/her own memories of the individual being laid to rest. Conversations, laughs shared, a brief aside remembered, recollections of time spent together, fragments of the whole person, but residing in the minds and hearts of family, friends and acquaintances. Never heard it put quite that way, and the idea is somehow comforting.Their bond has been strong since they were young, no matter how different they were. She has always been close to Tess, but they grew apart after relocating to the States.

Her third novel, The Quality of Silence, follows an astrophysicist and her deaf daughter through the Alaskan wilderness in search of their husband/father. It was optioned by FilmNation in March 2016. Sister is a psychological thriller from the viewpoint of Beatrice. Beatrice communicates to her missing sister Tess through a letter or diary-like entries. The plot is centered around her attempts to find out the truth about Tess's disappearance. The story focuses on Beatrice, who, knowing that her sister, Tess, is missing, takes the first flight to England from New York, hoping to find her. She’s given the news in the middle of Sunday lunch. When Tess is found dead, Beatrice is sure there is more to the murder than meets the eye. Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Bee is certain that Tess didn’t commit suicide. Their family and the police accept the sad reality, but Bee feels sure that Tess has been murdered. Single-minded in her search for a killer, Bee moves into Tess’s apartment and throws herself headlong into her sister’s life—and all its secrets. What did the sisters’ mother teach them about motherhood and being a fulfilled woman? What did she teach them about love? Truly marvelous! As compelling as it is stylish, SISTER exists in that rare place where crime fiction and literature coincide.”— Jeffery Deaver This book is a debut novel by the author. That said, all I can say is I will definitely be reading more by her.

And imagine acquiring a new language and only learning the words to describe a wonderful world, refusing to know the words for a bleak one and in doing so linguistically shaping the world that you inhabit.” Feel free to invite some friends to join our Round Table community!http://www.goodreads.com/group/invite_members/26989-goodreads-authors-readers Bee is certain that Tess didn’t commit suicide. Their family and the police accept the sad reality, but Bee feels sure that Tess has been murdered. Single-minded in her search for a killer, Bee moves into Tess’s apartment and throws herself headlong into her sister’s life–and all its secrets. The story is written in the voice of Beatrice, who appears to be writing a letter to her late sister Tess. I thought this book was silly and beyond that insulting in its treatment of depression and suicide. Having said that, it was a lot better than any book I've ever written (none). Still...ugh.

As the book develops, we learn more about the sisters, and we form a bond with them. Both sisters are interesting characters. Beatrice is practical and has a mathematical, analytical brain worked in corporate design in the USA before Tess’s death. Upon Tess’ death, Beatrice left her job and moved to London to untangle the death of her sister. To support herself, she left her lucrative job in the USA and started to work in catering. Tess was a fine art student and had several suitors. She had an affair with one of her teachers, Emilio Codi, and she got pregnant with him. However, he was married and unwilling to leave his wife. Tess also attracted the interest of another fine art student, Simon, who is also the MP’s son. Simon used to stalk Tess, and she was his muse for his art project. Before her death, she wanted to meet Simon and stayed with him. He lied to the police about their last meeting. Tess’ unborn child was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Therefore, Tess saw many doctors and undertook some paid trial in a study. Tess also saw a psychiatrist, who changed her diagnosis from depression to post-natal psychosis upon her death. There appeared to be several suspects for Tess’ murder, but the police early concluded that this was a suicide case and refused to look beyond this. I don't believe outstandingly beautiful and charismatic women create obsession in what would otherwise be normal men, but rather they attract the weirdos and the stalkers; flames in the darkness that these disturbing people inhabit, unwittingly drawing them closer until they extinguish the very flame they were drawn to.” An] unusual and searing debut... At the harrowing conclusion, Bee's aching heart accepts that "grief is love turned into an eternal missing." Tess was an artist in London pursuing her studies at university at twenty-one, and her body was found in a horrible place. The pieces of the puzzle don’t add up for Beatrice, and with how Tess cherished her life, she would never commit suicide voluntarily. Forget about solving all these crimes; the signal triumph here is (spoiler) the heroine’s survival.

What were your initial theories about how Tess died? How would you have pursued the case if you had been one of the DIs?Bee is certain that Tess didn’t commit suicide. Their family and the police accept the sad reality, but Bee feels sure that Tess has been murdered. Single-minded in her search for a killer, Bee moves into Tess's apartment and throws herself headlong into her sister's life--and all its secrets. Grief is the ultimate unrequited love.' A different way to think of death, to be sure. Bee's upwardly mobile lifestyle is thrown to the winds as she digs into the circumstances of her younger sister's disappearance. Her grasp on sanity seems a bit fragile, and as the story unfolds, she steps into Tess' shoes and moves into her flat in an effort to learn more. The morphing of Bee from her safely staid life into the more bohemian leanings of her sister is interesting.
