Slow cooker gammon in coke might sound like a strange recipe but trust me, it’s delicious! The sweetness of the cola perfectly balances the saltiness of the ham, making a tasty, tender joint of meat. There are four main sizes of ham boiler in the Flavasava range, the AF25, AF50, AF75 and AF150 ham boilers. Test the saltiness of your ham by slicing a small piece off the end and frying it in a little oil. If the ham is very salty, you will need to soak it for 12 hours in cold water, changing the water once. If your ham is quite salty, place the joint in a very large pan, cover with cold water, bring to the boil. Drain and discard the cooking water.

How long does it take to cook a precooked ham?

We use the carrot to help lift the gammon joint off the base of the slow cooker pot (like a trivet). Using a sharp knife, score a criss-cross pattern in the ham fat, cutting lines about 2.5cm/1in deep and 2cm/¾ in apart. Carefully remove the ham from the pan and let it cool slightly before removing the hot foil. (CAUTION: hot steam can burn.) A larger 2kg joint, will take about 6 hours on low to cook through and reach the safe internal temperature of 74C. Place your ham into your slow cooker cut side down. Very carefully, snip off the string and slide a knife, in a horizontal sawing motion, between the ham rind and fat, then lift off the rind, leaving a thin layer of fat on the meat. How Long To Cook Gammon In A Slow CookerI prefer unsmoked to smoked gammon but you can use either. If you have a smoked gammon joint you should remove some of the saltiness of the meat before you put it in the slow cooker by boiling it in water for half an hour. What can I make with leftover gammon? For this recipe, there is no need to soak the split peas ahead of cooking as you’ll be slow cooking them for several hours. I do, however, rinse them in cold running water to remove any dirt. How easy is this slow cooker ham and pea soup?
