I read this book-length poem for the first time sitting still, transfixed, afraid to break its spell, and certain that here was something important and real. It made the parliamentary arithmetic fiendish, sapped her authority over both cabinet and party while diminishing her credibility with the EU. The toughest lines were taken by the leaders of the member states. Contrary to the widespread and completely wrong perception that they would “come to our rescue”, it was Emmanuel Macron and his counterparts who repeatedly intervened to harden up the EU’s position. Their understandable priority was to protect the integrity of the EU and safeguard themselves from Eurosceptic parties in their own countries. At one summit, Merkel’s first question to May is: “What’s the price?” In other words, in what ways would the UK be worse off for leaving as a deterrent to anyone else doing the same.

The tension between these two characters is intense even as suspense and danger dog their every step. They have their own reasons for putting their lives on the line and have vowed to succeed regardless of the cost. And their lives are on the line. Each conversation, each decision could be their last. In the midst of it all, when their next breath could be their last, they somehow find each other. And connect in the most elemental way. They fit even though they shouldn’t.

The Russian woman brokered young innocents into slavery, and Mike meant to destroy her and the organization she worked for. He should have despised her for the atrocious crimes she facilitated, but too often love and hate are the flip sides of the same coin, and what Mike felt for Taty was not hate. It didn't matter. He'd destroy the Bravata and all its associates--even if it meant part of his soul sat in prison for the rest of her life.

After reading book one in the series, I had to have them all, which I do. Each book shows the writing skill of the author to provide unforgettable characters with action and love. Strong men and women who think they cannot share their lives find they can with the right person. It is hard to figure out how Mike and Tatyana will live long enough to find that path to a life together. This is a book you won't put down or forget. A five star recommend for me and a thank you to the author. New leaders may be unable to read the political situation clearly or achieve the cultural changes their strategic and operational agendas require. Boards and key executives may not grasp the complex nature of CEO succession or consider the likely political and cultural challenges the new leader will face. A CEO transition is not the same as onboarding, which is a formal, short-term, agenda-driven orientation program of briefings and meetings. It is a longer process of interactions both formal and informal, planned and impromptu; it should begin when the board’s choice accepts the position and last for months after he or she arrives. The outgoing CEO, the chief human resources officer, and the board all have key roles to play in the process, writes the author, who describes best practices for each. Tatyana Petrov 'Taty' joined the elite MI6 and for the last 8 years has worked her way into the trust of the Bravata, striving to identify the human filth selling innocents to the rich as playthings. The ISPR called the PTI leaders “hypocrites” for inciting their workers against the armed forces on the one hand, and other, they were praising the military — in a bid to overshadow their criticism.I enjoyed this story a lot. Barwell nevertheless paints a sympathetic portrait of the May years.
