About this deal

The BOSS RC-500 was released in 2020 and while the name implies that it’s a bigger and better pedal than the RC-300, it definitely doesn’t look it at first. Although, I’d say my guide does a better job, to be honest. As a matter of fact, it’s kind of why I wrote this. Manufacturer manuals are never as good as they could be. The RC-5 is quite an upgrade from the RC-1 in terms of features. Here are some of the nifty features in this unit, hidden underneath MEMORY settings. Each memory setting is independent for each slot, so you can experiment with different loops. My guess is that they were going to call this the RC-50, but because they had an RC-50 in the past (now discontinued), they felt that RC-500 would be a good model number. The RC-5 provides players a wealth of sonic possibilities, all without having to take hands off the guitar. Here are five powerful tips. Read more…

The Automatic mode will begin recording as soon as you start playing. The Count-in mode gives you a bar of rhythm set at a tempo of your choice (using a tap tempo button) before it starts recording. The Boss RC-5 is one of the most powerful Loop Stations on the market. Boss are the industry standard for Loop Stations and the RC-5 has brought them to the future. There have been times in the past when I bought a lower model pedal to save some money, only to regret it later on. I’ve never bought a more expensive model and wished I had fewer features. In this guide, I’ll go through each of the above pedal’s features and explain who each pedal may or may not suit. The above video uses a BOSS RC-50, which has been discontinued. But you can still achieve the same results with many of the pedals covered below. Which Loop Station is Best?

Run a 1/4″ instrument cable from the “output” to the “Return” on the amplifier’s effects loop, then run a 1/4″ instrument cable from the “input” of the pedal to the “Send” on the amplifier’s effects loop. The RC-3 is for guitarists looking for a simple looper that has room to grow with them. Basic loopers like the RC-1 or the Ditto can begin to feel limited after a while. It took me a minute to figure out how to work the auto-record feature. Turns out that my guitar just wasn’t loud enough for the pedal to process the signal. But if you want to create multiple loops, complex layers, and use other advanced features like what you saw in the above video, one of the more feature-filled loop stations like the RC-30, RC-500, or RC-300 might suit you better. The best feature of the RC-1, in my opinion, is the indicator ring. This gives you a great visual indication of the length of your loop and what the looper is currently doing. As you will read next, a better comparison is the RC-3 and the RC-5. Read about the RC-5 below before you decide on either one. Featuring best-in-class 32-bit AD/DA and 32-bit floating-point processing, the RC-5 captures your personal sound with full fidelity and keeps loops crystal clear, even with multiple overdubs. And with 13 hours of stereo recording time, there’s plenty of space for extended creative journeys. But it isn’t just “here’s a small looper for people who do slightly more than just annoy their families with endless looping” (let’s admit it, we’re all guilty of that from time to time). Now you could viably use the looper in a live situation as well. It might take a while to get used to performing some operations, but with a little practice it becomes intuitive. You can also always add an external footswitch later for easier control of the pedals features.
