Al inicio del nuevo milenio los oriundos de Sacramento CA lanzaron un gran clásico moderno como lo fue "White Pony", con un sonido, textura, y nivel de composición que los diferencio del resto de bandas mainstream de entonces. En 2003 sacarían su disco homónimo que aunque tiene sus rolitas chilas, en general careció de dirección y del empeño del anterior esfuerzo de estudio. Esto marcaría el inicio de la era "Dark Days" para Deftones, donde las fricciones y diferencias entre los integrantes fueron muy notables. Inmediatamente del disco "Deftones" comenzaron a componer de nuevo, un proceso difícil para Chino y compañía que duraría 3 años y cachito, llegando al grado de cada quien grabar sus partes de manera individual.

Im a massive Deftones fan and felt that they would never top the skull crushing 'Around The Fur' or the brilliant experimentalism of 'White Pony'. Well i was wrong. 'Saturday Night Wrist' fuses the heaviness with experimental and is something special. The album carries a very strong Shoegaze/dreamy sound, the guitars creating a heavy wall of noise whilst the vocals float over the top and drums hammer away beneath. Each member is excellent.
