As you’d expect of a small budget TV, there’s no 4K or HDR support here. The C2420G’s native resolution is an HD-ready 1,366x768 pixels, while brightness and contrast are claimed to be 180cd/m2 and 3000:1 respectively. You could go for one of the brand’s Freeview Play-only sets, but they make do with Cello’s own smart TV system, which we found left a fair bit to be desired on the Cello Netgem TV.

It's worth pointing out that if you're looking for the best 4K TVs you won't find them at this size. That's because at 32 inches you simply won't get the benefit of all those extra pixels –so you'd be paying for something you can't really see. These TVs have either HD or 1080p resolution and that's more than sharp enough; we don't think you get any benefit from 4K until you step up at least one size to one of the best 40-inch TVs. It's much better to have HDR instead: that gives you much more dynamic and lifelike images no matter what display resolution you have, and some of these TVs include it. Other picture fine tuning tools are few and far between. There’s decent compensation for this, though, in the shape of a long list of picture presets that gives you a fair degree of flexibility over how the picture looks with different types of content. Considering much of its budget competition is manufactured abroad, many of Cello’s potential customers will likely feel some reassurance with the ability to speak directly with the manufacturer, in their own time zone, with any issues or concerns. With a resolution of 1366 x 768, this TV delivers clear and sharp images, while the built-in Smart TV features provide access to a range of streaming services and apps. Things that you’re also likely to miss out on at this price are screen brightness, the wider colour gamut than you’d see on pricier sets, and advanced processing. Cello’s smart TV system has also been a bit of a disaster in TVs we’ve tested previously, but hopefully the introduction of Android TV in its more recent sets – as used by the likes of Sony and Philips – should help to improve that.
