About this deal

World Book Day 2023 takes place on the 2nd of March, so if your child’s school is taking part, browse our fun collection of costumes and accessories based on popular book characters. World Book Day is celebrated in schools across the UK, often with lots of book-themed events and fancy dress. So, whether they’re a fan of all things Disney, the wizarding world of Harry Potter, or superheroes from their beloved comic books–our World Book Day range has tons of options that’ll bring stories to life.

Use bandages and matching tops and trousers to go as Mr Bump and Little Miss Sunshine (Image: Anna Ruffle) Use toy props and do their hair and make up Kids love wearing sportswear to school so why not embrace this? If your son or daughter is in a football team, get them dressed up in their kit to go as Frankie from Frank Lampard's book Frankie's Magic Football. If you stuff a cushion underneath the jumper, it will mean your little one can achieve the Mr Men look. 21. One of the 101 Dalmatians Traditionally recreating this outfit would mean dressing your child in a pair of white y fronts and a red cape, but given the cold weather you could always dress your child in a pair of light brown pants, a light brown t-shirt put the cape and white y fronts over the top of them. 13. Hetty FeatherA partnership with Scottish BookTrust distributed 5k vouchers through Bookbug for the Home, a programme to introduce the benefits of stories to families with very young children who are facing significant barriers such as poverty and social isolation If you've got some yellow wool, or brown depending on your little ones hair you can plait it and make it in to fake hair which you can attach to your little one's ponytail. All you need is a blue jumper, some hair gel for his famous quiff and if you’ve got a white stuffed dog to be Snowey, even better. 6. Angelina Ballerina We hosted a BBC Live Lessons event starring Sita Brahmachari, Jess French and Football Schools, alongside Clare Balding, Ben Bailey Smith, Liz Pichon, Greg James and Chris Smith, with a live Q&A with Humza Arshad. You can find the accompanying live lessons resources here. If you don’t have a grey wig, put some talcum powder in their hair. 4. George from George’s Marvellous Medicine

BookTrust distributed 90k tokens via their BookStart Coordinators working in libraries and community settings. This year we delivered a pandemic-adjusted all-day programme of free digital events and activities designed to engage children and help them develop a life-long habit of reading for pleasure. Read more about all these brilliant initiatives below: Got a blonde daughter? Put her hair in bunches and send her as Lola from Charlie and Lola. Harry Potter just needs a lightning strike and a pair of round glasses. Go for a 'Blue Peter style' outfit with a bit of cardboard, paint or felt tips A stripy jumper could easily pass for Where's Wally or Dennis the Menace. And, if you're really struggling, a school uniform is just the job for a character from Malory Towers or Harry Potter. Recycle your Halloween and Christmas outfits

If naughty Bill is your child’s favourite, just dress them in ordinary trousers, a striped top and a flat cap. Raid the fruit bowl for a shiny red apple for Snow White or stuff a pillow inside an oversized pink or red T-shirt for Roger Hargreaves' Mr Greedy - just secure it in place by wrapping a belt underneath it.

We organised the distribution of 24,000 books to all UK prisons in the UK to help families enjoy reading together. Many book characters are pretty ordinary kids, which is one of the reasons why children love them so much. Think of characters that wear normal clothes and add accessories to make them into their bookish persona. Maybe not an obvious choice given Wimpy Kid dresses really plain, however it could be just what you need if you're struggling for outfit ideas. Also take a look at our World Book Day gallery to see all the fabulous pics of costumes families have sent in over the past couple of years.

In addition, World Book Day continued to work with our partners to engage children all over the UK with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure. Our initiatives included: If you have a brightly coloured T-shirt, your child could easily pass as a Mr Men or Little Miss character of that colour. Think blue for Mr Sneezy, green for Mr Nosey and yellow for Little Miss Sunshine. A partnership with Read for Good helped get 2,400 books directly to school children in deprived areas. If you want to really get the costume spot on team the red jumper with a pair of blue jeans too. 5. Tintin
