About this deal

The Estate, in Speyside near Grantown-on-Spey on the banks of the River Spey, is surrounded by incredible views of lochs, moors and glens. The 22,000-acre Tulchan Estate is mainly a sporting ground, but it comes with fine dining, spa facilities and stunning accommodation options.

Some of these spirits were really deserving of their price tags, with really comforting flavours and great complexity. “There were some brilliant liquids here that I’d be happy to recommend to people.”

The tasting then moved to Pre‐Mixed/RTD – Ultra Premium expressions, where a Gold medal was bestowed upon Mirror Margarita Tequila. “Slightly on the sweet side, but the agave flavours come out exceptionally, with the lime not overpowering,” said Prousaefs. Stablemate Mirror Margarita Mezcal won a Silver medal. AN EXCEPTIONAL SCORE OF 95 - Tulchan™ Gin received this extraordinary rating at the hands of the critically acclaimed Tasting Panel. Tulchan™ Gin also attained the Masters level in the Spirits Business Luxury Masters. Fellow Master winner The Glenturret 15 Years Old offered a “lovely resinous quality” on the palate, with “warming spice, medjool dates and gingerbread”. “Super complex and balanced – very delicious,” the judges agreed. Two Gold awards were handed to The Glenturret 12 Years Old and The Glenturret 10 Years Old Peat Smoked. Seven Scotch whiskies secured the top accolade

Moving onto sweeter spirits, and super‐ premium liqueur Tobago Gold grabbed the Master award. Athavia found this to be “super nostalgic, with so much milk malt – delicious”. In addition, Lemon Brothers’ Limoncello collected a Gold medal in the ultra‐premium liqueur heat, thanks to its “great concentration of flavour”. Eight Lands spirits are made using organic ingredients, including some botanicals that are sourced from the Glenrinnes estate. Uncle Nearest nabbed a Master award in the following ultra‐premium flight for Uncle Nearest Master Blender Edition Batch 012. The judges were full of praise for the whiskey’s “nuttiness, oiliness” and notes of “dark cocoa and fruity sweetness”. On the nose, I’m immediately getting classic London dry gin impressions of resinous juniper, with sweet pine sap, combined with a more delicate, heathery floral profile. There’s a bit of honey here, along with some sweet orange, and no real ethanol presence to speak of. There’s a mild, warm spice rounding things out. The profile is perhaps a bit on the lighter side than some of the other gins I’ve been tasting recently, but it’s sweetly inviting, splitting its balance between juniper and florals. The spirit is not chill filtered after distillation as this would remove a high proportion of essential oils from the gin, altering the flavour of the final liquid. The 53% ABV bottling is part of the distillery’s core 2022 collection, which includes Triple Wood, 7 Years Old Peat Smoked, 10 Years Old Peat Smoked, 12 Years Old and 15 Years Old. I wanted to feature the gin in a few classic serves to match the traditional feel of the brand. These are great, easy-to-mix recipes to enjoy before you reach for that Speyside dram. Tulchan G&T

What a start,” enthused Chambers. “A strong flight with some extremely impressive products.” Smith said how some entries were “exceptional”, but also noted: “You don’t always get what you pay for.” Judges discovered “fruity red berries” in one award-winning ginThe second team comprised: David T Smith, spirits consultant, writer and co-founder of the Craft Distilling Expo; Evan Prousaefs, bar manager at Sexy Fish in London; Dimple Athavia, founder of All Things Drinks; and Matt Chambers, co-founder of the Whisky for Everyone blog and the North London Whisky Club, who chaired the panel. This is more of a lighter style of London Dry. The juniper shines on the nose but on the palate, it is not as strong as you might expect a London Dry to be. However, the flavour profile is nicely balanced. It is sweet and fruity followed by citrus and spices, doing a full circle with a fruity finish.

After retasting fresh samples of the Master medallists, the judges’ votes were counted and verified, and the result was that Ardbeg 25 Years Old came away as the deserving Taste Master.Tobago Gold was the only liqueur to grab a medal in our blind tasting, securing the top award of Master. One of the largest categories in this year’s Luxury Masters was Scotch whisky, with Islay single malt Ardbeg scooping the top Taste Master title for its 25-year-old bottling. The whisky was selected for the highest accolade following a re-taste of all the Master medallists at the end of the competition. The Glenturret 7 Years Old Peat Smoke also secured a Master medal for its “very silky texture” with flavours of “dried currants, caramel and smouldering smoke”.
