About this deal

What do you think? Are you ready to elevate your creations with stunning foil effects? The Cricut Foil Transfer Kit includes everything you need to get started:

So long story short, JoAnn’s had the Foil Quill set on sale this weekend for 60% off, so I bought another set just to test it. I think my old set was a dud, the new set gets much hotter, no corrosion on any of the tips and it works SO much better! Unsurprisingly, the Cricut foil worked perfectly with the Cricut Foil Tip. It was designed to work with the pressure-sensitive tip and I got great results. I love this foil—it’s really shimmery and pretty. Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil However, the cutting blade and foil tool both utilize the B clamp on your Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore machines. Insert the Cricut Foil Transfer Tool into clamp B on your cutting machine. The Minc reactive foil transferred some foil, but not enough to make this an option I would go for. Very spotty and not vivid at all.

We are going to test the following brands of foil just to see what will happen when the Cricut foil tool is applied. Tawk.to, a live chat functionality, sets this cookie. The Cricut Foil Transfer Tool works as a companion to your cutting blade and you’ll need both tools to create intricate designs. The housing units on these tools are not interchangeable despite how similar they look to each other. So, be sure to keep both on hand!

A post shared by Mike 🧵✂️ The Crafty Gentleman (@thecraftygentleman) on Sep 24, 2020 at 7:55am PDT How does the Cricut Foil Transfer Tool work? Trim a piece of transfer foil just large enough to cover the area we traced. It should be larger than the area to be foiled but small enough that it is within the cut lines. It’s easy to change between tooltips, too. Simply press the plunger down, remove the tip, insert the new tip, and release the plunger. It’s just like our other tools! Easily switch between different tip sizes with the Cricut Foil Transfer Tool. Using the Cricut Foil Transfer ToolRemove that line we created earlier, and we are all set to cut out our design. Select the Send button in the top right-hand corner. You will see in red that a rectangle in the middle is highlighted to be cut. This is exactly what we want. We’re only using Tool 1, so the lines to be embossed should be showing filled red. We do not want the small rectangle to cut, so be sure that no bold lines are showing except for the foil design. (See image below.) Pressure-sensitive – this means that when pressure is applied the foil will transfer to the material. This is what the Cricut foil is and what the tool is designed to work with. I’ve seen people having success using the Paper + setting on their Explore Air machines, so I decided to try the Copy Paper 20lb setting on my Maker. Load the base and make sure the ratchet blade is in the left tool holder and the fine embossing tool is in the right tool holder. The foil tool was newly launched in 2020, but you’d be forgiven for thinking there was already one out there. The company We R Memory Keepers make a ‘Foil Quill’, which works with Cricut machines and does a similar job. It’s been out for years and is pretty popular. However, the official Cricut tools offer some significant advantages over it – there’s a detailed comparison towards the end of this article. Select Send once more in Silhouette Studio®, and your machine will begin to trim your floral matting. The WRMK foil quill is my new favorite for filling in words and shapes! (Sorry Cricut Foil Transfer Tool.) So far the only other pressure sensitive foil I have found is the Silhouette brand. I’m going to give the Silhouette foil a try with the Cricut Foil Transfer Tool. Cricut Foil Transfer Tool - Fine Tip I bought the gold sheets and the holographic sheets to try initially. You get 5 sheets that are 5.5” x 5.5” squares, so slightly different dimensions than the smaller Cricut sheets and really great if you plan to make square cards. Another bonus, you can use your Michael’s coupons! The biggest difference between this foil and the Cricut Foil is that it only comes in 6″ rolls, vs the larger 12″ x 12″ sheets that Cricut sells. Depending on the size of the designs you want to foil, it may be easier to use the larger Cricut foil sheets. We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill Heat Reactive Foil If you have an additional foil you’d like me to test, let me know in the comments! What Foil Works with the Cricut Foil Tip?

If you’ve ever tried to write (engrave, foil, deboss, score, etc.) a regular font using your Cricut or other cutting machine, you may have been frustrated to see that it creates an outline of the font (some call it a “bubble font”), vs. writing like you would with a pen.

Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil is a heat-reactive foil. I didn’t expect this heat reactive foil to work with the Cricut Foil Tip, but it did—beautifully. I used the fine tip for all of these, but the Spellbinders foil went on a bit bolder and I’m not exactly sure why. Deco Foil is also adhesive reactive. I am not sure why the Minc foil transferred a bit and Deco Foil didn’t transfer at all. Either way, I wouldn’t use either of those options with the Cricut Foil Tip.
