The colours are middling, too. The panel does display a decent 91.7% of the sRGB colour gamut and its Delta E of 2.39 is reasonable, but the temperature of 7809K is cool. Combine this with the low contrast figure and you’ve got a display that looks pallid. There are a couple things I noticed with this testing. Firstly, the noise levels were quieter than what I measured on the similarly specced Legion 5 Pro. A good surprise, indeed, but it’s probably because this model’s RTX 3070 only hits 115W with games (although it should go up to 130W as per the specs), where the Legion 5 Pro goes up to 140W. Pretty good results and it’s exactly what I was expecting, considering the plethora of Legion laptops I have reviewed in the past couple of months. Take your gaming up a gear with the Lenovo Legion 5 Intel Core i7 Gaming Laptop (82RB000XUK). Powered by an Intel Core i7-12700H 14 Core Processor, you'll have all the ammunition you need to enjoy high octane action within all your favourite games. Ports: 4 x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 1 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (Data, DP 1.4), 1 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (Data, Power, DP 1.4), 1 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x RJ-45, 1 x 3.5mm combo

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List. The hinges look shiny at first, but as one user pointed out in my Legion 5 15” review, it’s because they are coated in plastic film. You can choose to leave this if you want to preserve them for whatever reason. Removing it is kind of a pain in the butt because it requires opening and closing the lid multiple times to get to it all.I also did some testing in some games. I took some in Performance mode with OC, Quiet mode with again in Performance OC mode with my upgraded RAM: Ryzen 7 + RTX 3070 130W One covered the ram, where we have two SODIMMs in the two slots. This is good for performance as you run dual channel, but if you want to go above the included 16GB you'll have to replace both modules. The ram modules are manufactured by Samsung. The metal lid over the ram wasn't screwed into place, but was held in place by friction clips around it. It would not help with cooling and would seem to be provided for shielding. The SK Hynix SSD recorded consecutive read and write scores of 3,137MB/s and 2,712MB/s respectively, which again is better than anything the direct competition can manage and very respectable for a PCI-E Gen3 x4 drive. Nvidia’s latest laptop graphics chips run at different power levels to deliver varying levels of performance and efficiency. The GeForce RTX 3070 inside the Legion runs at 130W, which is about as high as this chip can go. Elsewhere, it’s got the usual 8GB of memory and 5120 stream processors. Turning to game tests, the Legion 5 averaged 61fps in the Hitman 2 test and 68fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The latter was performed with ray tracing enabled, DLSS off and all other graphics settings set at the highest level.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services. To get the most out of the battery life, you need to enable Optimus. This is done in the Vantage software by enabling Hybrid mode. This switches the MUX to port the signal through the iGPU in the CPU. It's an AMD laptop, so it obviously doesn't. It's a regular USB 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort Alt mode. To the right we see the wireless module and the included SSD. This also has thermal pad applied for more cooling. The keyboard on the 17” version is almost identical to the keyboard on the 15” Legion 5. I had zero trouble typing on it, as I’ve adapted pretty well to typing on Legion keyboards for the past several months. Ram is dual channel 3200 CL22. This is the mid bin of the JEDEC standard timings. Enthusiasts might expect tighter timings with perhaps CL16 typical on an XMP module, but it isn't expected to have too much impact on gaming. Using an older version of Aida64 which does not fully support newer CPUs, the memory bandwidths are around 45, 33, 38.5 GB/s for read, write and copy respectively. Theoretical max bandwidth is about 50GB/s so read isn't far off, but writes and copy are lagging somewhat. Latency is a whopping 81ns. The APU reserves 2GB by default of system ram, which becomes unavailable for other software to use. My old laptop with Intel CPU and 1050 didn't reserve that much ram. There is a bios option that lets you reduce that amount to 1 GB or 512MB, but there is a warning against doing so. We also run a custom Adobe Photoshop image-editing benchmark. Using an early 2018 release of the Creative Cloud version of Photoshop, we apply a series of 10 complex filters and effects to a standard JPEG test image, timing each operation and adding up the total. As with Handbrake, lower times are better here. The Photoshop test stresses the CPU, storage subsystem, and RAM, but it can also take advantage of most GPUs to speed up the process of applying filters, so systems with powerful graphics chips or cards may see a boost. There are 10 screws holding the base cover in place. After that, you have the epic struggle of getting the clips detached. Given I saw some small plastic bits come loose in the process, I assume there are now fewer plastic clips to get in my way next time. There are three metal covers which have been removed for the above shot.

We test Windows PCs' graphics with two DirectX 12 gaming simulations from UL's 3DMark, Night Raid (more modest, suitable for laptops with integrated graphics) and Time Spy (more demanding, suitable for gaming rigs with discrete GPUs).

There are no obvious panels to allow hardware upgrades. To access the replaceable components you have to remove the base of the case. More on that later. As usual, Lenovo delivers a great keyboard: the buttons deliver a great balance between the snappiness required for gaming and the softness needed for longer typing sessions. The buttons are fast and consistent, too. The layout is solid: there’s a numberpad, and the full-size cursor keys are separated from the rest of the unit. Even though it’s not a 99Whr battery, the battery life is still pretty good for a gaming laptop. The key is making sure that Hybrid mode is turned on. It comes installed with Windows 10 Home which is fine for a gamer. On first boot you get the usual user setup stuff. I don't know if it is a limitation of Home or something Lenovo did but after adding a network connection, I couldn't find an option to use a local account, which I'm sure is present in other Pro installs recently. I reluctantly let it use one of my existing MS accounts to get past that part, and created a new local account after.

The speaker system in the Legion 5 is good enough, but hardly exceptional. It can’t compare with the Asus TUF Dash F15, since it has smaller drivers, but there’s a reasonable amount of volume and the sound is tight and punchy. The absence of any form of bass is the biggest issue, though, which is something the pre-installed Nahimic control panel can only do so much to ameliorate. The build quality is also very good. Sure, it’s all plastic, but the chosen materials and design make the unit feel high-quality for the price you are paying for it. I didn’t detect any abnormal creaks in the casing during normal use. USB-A 3.2 gen2, 1x USB-C 3.2 DP 1.4, 1x USB-C with DP 1.4 and PD support, 1x HDMI 2.1, ethernet, mic/earphone

The CPU might be Zen 3 but we get a somewhat cut down version in the Cezanne APU. The caches are smaller overall. The desktop counterpart gets 32MB of L3, but here we get 16MB. Still a decent amount, but like the ram for most use cases it is hopefully a small difference in practice.
