Schaffer, Talia (1994). " "A Wilde Desire Took Me": the Homoerotic History of Dracula". ELH. 61 (2): 381–425. doi: 10.1353/elh.1994.0019. ISSN 1080-6547. S2CID 161888586. The above quotations should make it abundantly clear what kind of book Dracula is. It's sensation fiction, written nearly half a century after the heyday of that genre. It's a cross between an epistolary novel, a detective novel and a save-my-wife story, and it's full of scares, horror and disgust, all described in a lurid tone that befits the subject: the living dead. Or the Un-Dead, as the book's other hero, my countryman Van Helsing, calls them. Fitts, Alexandra (1998). "Alejandra Pizarnik's "La condesa Sangrienta" and the Lure of the Absolute". A Biography of Dracula: The Life Story of Bram Stoker. W. Foulsham. ISBN 978-0-572-00217-6. This is a classic monster tale I have enjoyed before, but could not wait to revisit as the season is rife with haunted ghouls and bloodthirsty readers! McNally & Florescu 1994, p.150: "Unfortunately, no correspondence between Vambery and Stoker can be found today. Moreover, a search through all of the professor's published writings fails to reveal any comments on Vlad, Dracula, or vampires." The start was intriguing enough but around halfway, after one of the main characters died, it’s just the 19th century equivalent of conference call after conference call on how to destroy Dracula

Altri celebri vampiri dello schermo: il mio amatissimo Bill Nighy nella saga cinematografica “Underworld”.

Raymond McNally's Dracula Was A Woman (1983) suggests another historical figure as an inspiration: Elizabeth Báthory. [16] McNally argues that the imagery of Dracula has analogues in Báthory's described crimes, such as the use of a cage resembling an iron maiden. [17] Gothic critic and lecturer Marie Mulvey-Roberts writes that vampires were traditionally depicted as "mouldering revenants, who dragged themselves around graveyards", but—like Báthory—Dracula uses blood to restore his youth. [18] Recent scholarship has questioned whether Báthory's crimes were exaggerated by her political opponents, [19] with others noting that very little is concretely known about her life. [20] A book that Stoker used for research, The Book of Were-Wolves, does have some information on Báthory, but Miller writes that he never took notes on anything from the short section devoted to her. [21] In a facsimile edition of Bram Stoker's original notes for the book, Miller and her co-author Robert Eighteen-Bisang say in a footnote that there is no evidence she inspired Stoker. [22] In 2000, Miller's book-length study, Dracula: Sense and Nonsense, was said by academic Noel Chevalier to correct "not only leading Dracula scholars, but non-specialists and popular film and television documentaries". [23] [d] Stewart, Bruce (1999). " "Bram Stoker's Dracula: Possessed by the Spirit of the Nation?" ". Irish University Review. 29 (2): 238–255. ISSN 0021-1427. JSTOR 25484813. And if I'm being 100% honest here, I probably zoned out a few times and daydreamed about when I needed to get the oil changed in my car or what we were having for dinner. But this is one of those books with a lot of superfluous information, so I don't think it hurt anything. I got the gist of it all okay without hanging on every word.

Review of PLTA, "Recent Novels" 1897; Lloyd's 1897, p.80; The Academy 1897, p.98; The Glasgow Herald 1897, p.10. The girl with the man brain ( When most we want all her great brain which is trained like man’s brain, but is of sweet woman) is ignored and shut out after she helped them, and that the valiant men ignore all the signals, in an overly convenient fashion just to move the plot towards it's all too clearly set up climax. Dracula (1992) is an acceptable adaptation, reasonably faithful to the original work, but with many deviations, none of them too bothersome. An out of this world cast including stars like Keanu, Wynona, Hopkins, Oldman and Elwes, that sadly didn’t amount to much. Not their best performance at all, and I especially disliked Sadie Frost as Lucy. Some none scripted scenes, awkward atmosphere and pacing, and honestly on the whole a little over the top. Not my favorite film at all; still, decent enough to watch, if only to complement the reading. The book definitely won this round. Escher, Kat (19 May 2017). After it was published as a serial in The Inter Ocean, Dracula was reprinted as a daily or weekly serial in at least three more newspapers across the US. It appeared as follows: This is a book that is so poorly written that I am confident that I could write something better. The second half of the book was only slightly more engaging to me, but at least there was a bit of urgency to it at that point. Van Helsing was on to Dracula, so garlic was being thrown over everything, stakes were being handed out like candy, and anything pertinent was being kept from Mina so as not to upset her delicate sensibilities.
