About this deal

Adults (including the elderly): One or two sachets after every loose motion. Each sachet should be dissolved in 200ml of water.

The researchers themselves were sure, even before they conducted the study, that 2-4 litres of ORS a day which contains 20-40gms of glucose per litre wouldn't cause any problems. However, they carried out the study to allay any fears diabetics would have. The subjects of the study were 15-60-year-olds who were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. These patients had had diarrhoea for the past 72 hours.

Adults (including elderly) - One or two sachets after every loose motion (each sachet dissolved in 200mls of water).

If diarrhoea persists unremittingly for longer than 36 hours the patient should be reassessed by the physician. This medicine contains 190 mg sodium (main component of cooking/table salt) in each sachet. This is equivalent to 10 % of the recommended maximum daily dietary intake of sodium for an adult. Dissolve the contents of each Dioralyte relief sachet in 200ml water. For adults and children over one year of age use fresh drinking water. For babies under one year of age, or if fresh drinking water is not available, use 200ml of freshly boiled and cooled water to dissolve each sachet. (Don't boil the made-up solution). The use of Dioralyte Relief in patients with the following conditions should be supervised by a physician: Food Supplements are intended to supplement the diet and should not be substituted for a varied diet or healthy lifestyle.

Pharmaceutical products; nutritional supplements; food supplements for medical use; dietary supplements; vitamins; mineral substances for medical use; rehydration products. Liothyronine (including Armour Thyroid and liothyronine combination products) - precsribing committees may decide exceptions may be made for patients who have an on-going need for liothyronine as confirmed by a consultant NHS endocrinologist. The contents of each sachet should be dissolved in 200ml (approx. 7fl oz) of drinking water. Use fresh drinking water for adults and children. For infants, and where drinking water is unavailable, the water should be freshly boiled and cooled. The solution should be made up immediately before use and may be stored for up 24 hours in a refrigerator, otherwise any solution remaining an hour after reconstitution should be discarded. The solution itself must not be boiled. Dioralyte Relief should not be administered to infants under 3 months and for those aged 3 months to 1 year under medical advice. To start with you will give the baby Dioralyte solution instead of feeds over the course of the day. The volume of Dioralyte solution that the doctor will usually recommend you give over 24 hours is one to one and a half times the volume of fluid the baby would usually drink in 24 hours. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Dioralyte Relief contains 2.5 vol % ethanol (alcohol). One dose contains 191 mg of ethanol, which is about the same amount of alcohol as 4 ml of beer or 1.7 ml of wine. This can be harmful to people with a drink problem. Also take this into account if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or giving this to a child, have liver disease or epilepsy. For oral administration only. Dioralyte Relief should not be reconstituted in diluents other than water. No specific precautions are necessary in the elderly. However, care should be taken when administering Dioralyte Relief solution in conditions where normal electrolyte balance may be disturbed (such as severe vomiting or diarrhoea).

Lidocaine plasters* - this does not apply to patients with neuropathic pain who have been treated in line with NICE guidance but are still experiencing neuropathic pain associated with previous herpes zoster infection (post-herpetic neuralgia). No side effects are expected from taking Dioralyte relief solution. Can I take Dioralyte relief with other medicines? In case you are still not convinced, there are other ways of replenishing the salts and water in the body apart from ORS. For oral administration only. Dioralyte should not be reconstituted in diluents other than water. Each Sachet should always be dissolved in 200ml of water. A weaker solution than recommended will not contain the optimal glucose and electrolyte concentration and a stronger solution than recommended may give rise to electrolyte imbalance. If diarrhoea persists for longer than 24-48 hours the patient should be seen by a physician. Dioralyte should not be used for the self treatment of chronic or persistent diarrhoea except under medical supervision. Dioralyte shall not be used for treatment in infants below the age of 24 months without medical supervision. Infants under the age of 2 years with diarrhoea should be seen by a physician as soon as possible. No specific precautions are necessary in the elderly. It's best not to eat in the early stages of diarrhoea. After 24 to 48 hours, as the diarrhoea improves, you can start to gradually re-introduce small amounts of food.
