It almost goes without saying that there’s little by way of low-frequency presence here, but even if you decide to find out what those 20 watts are capable of the AU7100 remains a composed listen. Even the most expensive TVs tend to play it safe design-wise, so no one should really be expecting any out-there design flourishes where a mainstream model like the AU7100 is concerned. And sure enough, there aren’t any - which is undoubtedly a good thing. While some colours look beautifully vivid on the 50AU8000, others, especially ‘nature’ greens, can look a touch subdued, resulting in bright HDR footage sometimes looking uneven and inconsistent. The beautiful UE50AU7100 is SmartThings enabled meaning you can control other selected Samsung smart devices from your mobile to your fridge from the comfort of your sofa! A truly groundbreaking TV. Edge definition is clean, and with native 4K images picture-noise is little more than a rumour. Motion is handled with real assurance, too. If you want an affordable TV to make the most of your 4K content, the Samsung AU7100 should be high on your shortlist.

If everything we watched on TV happened to be bright, the 50AU8000 would work just fine. Also, you can stream your Samsung smartphone device straight to your Samsung TV with a simple tap of your phone to your television. Compared to older models, the color rendition is still average. The AU7100 panel does not have a wide color gamut and this reduces the color brightness. Peak brightness in HDR mode is less than 300 nits. The TV may not provide impressive bright highlights, but it does a decent job of handling the dynamics. Ignorance is bliss, though, so if you haven’t dealt with high-end TVs, you may not notice many of these points. Smart TV at your fingertips It’s important to keep price uppermost in your mind when considering the images the Samsung AU7100 is capable of delivering. No, this isn’t the brightest screen around and no, the power of its upscaling isn’t going to fool you into thinking you’re watching native 4K content when you’re not. But does it represent value for money? Oh, most certainly. Audio Return Channel (ARC), Dolby Digital Plus, Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), Audio Pre-selection Descriptor, Adaptive Sound, Q-Symphony Lite Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits) Tailored content recommendations - spend less time scrolling and more time watching with recommendations from Samsung TV Plus

To top it all off there is Dolby Digital Sound built in so you can enjoy crisp, room filling sound from the standard speakers! The 50AU8000 also excels with its upscaling of sub-4K content. It adds a seriously impressive amount of detail and sharpness to HD sources, producing much more ‘4K-like’ results than most affordable 4K TVs muster. What’s more, it delivers its excellent upscaling results without exaggerating noise or causing distracting side effects. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) Wi-Fi Direct, USB Human Interface Device (HID), ConnectShare, Bluetooth Human Interface Device (HID), Sound Mirroring, Tap ViewNew this year is the amazing Crystal Processor 4K which optimises and adapts what is on the screen for the best 4K picture and targeted sound. Here, too, the 50AU8000 flatters to deceive. At first listen it seems to produce a pleasingly wide soundstage, filled busily by lots of subtle detail. Certainly things feel more ‘hi-fi’ than you might typically expect from an affordable 50-inch TV. Motion looks reasonably natural too, once you’ve swapped the over-enthusiastic, noisy-looking Auto Picture Clarity setting for a calmer Custom mode where Judder Reduction is set to around three or four. There does seem to be a little more residual resolution loss in areas of fine detail during camera pans than we’d typically expect from a Samsung TV, but overall it’s still a good effort. As has lately been Samsung’s wont, the AU7100 is supplied with a couple of remote control handsets with which to navigate the interface, pursue the set-up menus and what-have-you. One is (and there’s no two ways about it) an unpleasant, cheap-feeling, overburdened handset of confusion, while the is a much nicer, much more minimal ‘just the basics’ alternative.

Expressing over 1 billion colours on the 50" 4Kscreen, PurcColour, UHD Dimming, HDR10 + supporthelps to create true to life colours to enhance your viewing experience. See content exactly as the director intended with the UE50AU7100 offering premium quality viewing. With the Samsung UE50AU7100, everything you watch is upscaled to a stunning 4K. Watch every scene burst from the screen with Samsung HDR TV. High dynamic range uncovers all the finest details, even in dark and bright scenes. See all the details you’ve been missing on a crisp, clear Ultra HD picture - 4 times the resolution of Full HD.Anything less information-rich than this can look somewhat rough, though. Picture noise gains confidence, edges get a little, well, edgy and on-screen movement begins to look hesitant and unnatural. Fans of vintage daytime TV broadcasts already know they can look antiquated, but the AU7100 proves less tolerant of them (or less capable with them) than some other ‘affordable’ alternatives.
