I can’t say enough about the moving castle’s beauty in this film. From the steampunk-inspired design to the animation of the castle’s movement and all the little parts moving and operating on their own, there’s a lot to appreciate. The castle’s structure consists of more than 80 elements including turrets, a wagging tongue, cogwheels and bird feet, all of which were rendered as digital objects.

And frankly, once it’s revealed why she’s hunting Howl down, I don’t blame her!) Sophie, much like the audience, is now unimpressed with Howl’s tribulations. Image Source: Screenshot The Moving Castle Image Source: Screenshot

Like I said before, this week’s post will focus on the characters from the Studio Ghibli film and Hayao Miyazaki’s animated take on the story. From steampunk elements to vintage twists and French architecture, Howl’s Moving Castle is a fantastical film brimming with inspiration! Sophie Hatter Sophie Hatter Not only do we have clothing featuring your favorite characters like Spirited Away's Chihiro, Ponyo, Totoro, Howl from Howl's Moving Castle, and Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service, but we also have a wide range of accessories to complete your look. From cute jewelry to cozy scarves, our Studio Ghibli collection has everything you need to show off your love for this beloved franchise. The world we are living in needs a counteract: not as an escape, but as a different outlook. This, to me, is what Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films for Studio Ghibli are about: a commentary on the moment and an alternative to it, always heartfelt, fulfilling, full of fantasy and sentiment. This is also the reason why the final installment of our collaboration with Studio Ghibli feels more timely than ever.

If Studio Ghibli wanted to do a fashion collab, you would think they would partner with a brand that most families and fans could actually afford. And hey, if you can afford these gorgeous clothes, snaps for you! Send me pictures so I can live vicariously through you. Almost there! With the cardigan looking a lot more like the cardigan from the movie, I moved on to the collar. The instructions are really clear and the shaping adds a great point to either end of the collar. The finished sleeves. As it turns out, years later both parties came to dislike the agreement, but the magical contract couldn’t be broken by the people who made it. When Sophie Hatter arrives at Howl’s moving castle, Calcifer recognizes that she is under a curse thanks to the Witch of Waste and that Sophie has considerable powers of her own. To break his own curse, Calcifer offers to lift the curse placed on Sophie once she manages to break Calcifer’s contract with Howl. Look #4: May All Your Bacon Burn In an endeavor to return to normal, Sophie must accompany Howl and a myriad of eccentric companions—ranging from a powerful fire demon to a hopping scarecrow—in his living castle on a dangerous adventure, as a raging war tears their kingdom apart. Howl’s Moving Castle Fashion Inspiration Image Source: Studio Ghibli When the sleeve was the right length, I started work on the cuffs. I’d never used the ribbing technique in crochet before but it was really easy and quite fun to do! I wanted to recreate the gold banding on either side of the cuff from the movie so I messaged Nathalie for advice. She was really helpful and told me to do a row of UK DC around either edge in yellow. With this done I could sew the cuffs on to the sleeves. Working on the sleeves. However, Sophie’s simple life takes a turn for the exciting when she is ensnared in a disturbing situation, and the mysterious wizard Howl appears to rescue her. Unfortunately, this encounter, brief as it may be, spurs the vain and vengeful Witch of the Waste—in a fit of jealousy caused by a past discord with Howl— to put a curse on Sophie, turning her into a 90-year-old woman. Whether you're looking for cute dresses, fashionable pants, or stylish shirts, we've got you covered. Our apparel is designed specifically for women and girls who want to embrace their love of Studio Ghibli in a fun and fashionable way. I finishes off the yellow scalloped edging around the cardigan, and tied in the loose ends (which took forever!), then according go the pattern I was done! Crocheting the scallop edge.

The message is one of uplifting connection. Crafting fantasies to create alternative realities and see the world in a different way.’ Welcome to the magical world of Studio Ghibli! As a true fan, you know that the whimsical characters and fantastical landscapes of these films are unlike anything else. And now, you can bring that magic to your wardrobe with our Studio Ghibli clothing and accessories collection. Although I’m no fashion expert, I never imagined that Loewe, which was responsible for Rihanna’s red jumpsuit and custom corset at the Super Bowl, would make a Howl’s Moving Castle collection. This isn’t the brand’s first collaboration with Studio Ghibli—it’s also made collections based on Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro . However, the brand’s eye-popping prices seem weirdly mismatched with Studio Ghibli’s family-friendly image. That jumbled piece of architecture, that cacophony of hissing steam and creaking joints, with smoke billowing from it as it moves on its own… That castle is home to the magnificent wizard Howl, infamous for both his magical prowess and womanizing tendencies—or, so the rumor goes in Sophie’s small town. Sophie Hatter, as the plain daughter of a hatmaker, does not expect much from her future and is content with making hats for the rest of her life.So why choose HerUniverse for your Studio Ghibli apparel needs? It's simple - we're fans too! We understand the importance of quality, comfort, and style when it comes to showing off your love for something as special as Studio Ghibli. That's why we take great care to curate a collection that reflects the unique spirit and magic of these films. Next I seamed together the side seams and shoulder seams so I could crochet on the sleeve. This was really easy, I just crocheted in the round until my sleeve was the right length. Working on the sleeve on a train. To gain inspiration for the settings in the film, Miyazaki traveled to Colmar and Riquewihr in Alsace, France. Additional inspiration came from the concepts of future technology in Albert Robida‘s work.
