It is all well enough written if you don't mind all the digressions, and Kate Atkinson keeps lots of balls in the air at the same time, which does require some skill, and yes, I did read on to see how it all ended. Jackson has an extraordinarly happy ending (like Del Boy becoming a millionaire) - I wonder if the book was originally as a one off, and this was Jackson riding off into the distance.

Hailing originally from Yorkshire, Cambridge (and later Edinburgh) moody, broody private investigator JACKSON BRODIE is many things: an ex-cop, an ex-soldier, an ex-husband, a weekend dad and a man who knows what it’s like be dragged through the emotional wringer of life.Fans are rewarded with some past characters, Atkinson’s quiet and sly humor, an interweaving of the at-first-appearances unrelated incidents, complicated characters, and the inner workings of their minds.

She's recently began wearing skimpy clothing and dancing suggestively to songs by Christina Aguilera, which concerns Jackson. Theo asks Jackson to investigate Laura's killing, and the sister of Michelle Morrison, the 3rd story, asks Jackson to find her niece, the daughter of the axe murderess. Case Histories is a British crime drama television series based on the Jackson Brodie novel series by Kate Atkinson. Meanwhile Jackson goes sight seeing to Cramond Island where he tries to pull a floating body out of the sea, but fails. And by lucky chance, the book that Liz had given me was "Case Histories" - the first Jackson Brodie book - so I decided to give that series a go.

While clearing out his house, Julia discovers Blue Mouse, Olivia's stuffed mouse toy which had been left in the tent the night she disappeared, in their father's study. A perfect title, really, for the cynicism woven throughout the series, as once again we get multiple incidents separated by decades: a violent attack on a mother and young children while picnicking, with only a six-year-old survivor; a train crash; Brodie stealing a toddlers' hair for paternity testing; the family murderer set to be released from prison; the now-adult survivor disappearing…We bounce between Yorkshire and Edinburgh as strangers' lives continue to intersect with multiple plots and stories being woven together. It's revealed later that he was in fact the person who murdered Laura after briefly becoming infatuated with her. This is the second Jackson Brodie book by Kate Atkinson, and it continues exactly where book one left off.
