Description

SUUNTO Core can also be set on dual time mode, indicating, in this case, the corresponding time for a secondary locality from a different time zone. However, if you take the watch off and wait a few minutes, it will give you a fairly accurate reading. We didn’t actually find this to be a problem because we generally just get dressed each day based on the weather outside, not what temperature our watch is telling us. Our personal favorite feature of the Suunto Core is the easy-to-read pressure trends graph that’s located on the upper lefthand corner of the display. This feature makes it easy to see what the weather is doing and can help you better understand if a storm is on its way. If you’re not used to wearing an outdoor watch, you’ll probably find that putting on the Suunto Core for the first time feels a bit weird. With a case size diameter of 1.93 inches (49.1mm), the Suunto is more or less the same size (give or take a few millimeters) of every other outdoor watch. For comparison, the Garmin Fenix 6 has a case size of 1.8 inches (47mm) while the Suunto 9 Baro has a case size of 2.03 inches (51.6mm). Another useful feature is the possibility of changing the main language of the interface from English to German, French or Spanish and to change the measurement units from metric to customary.

The Core has an altitude log. While this doesn't seem like a big deal, once people get an altimeter watch this is one of their most-used features. For up to seven days the Core will log your total ascent, descent and number of runs. For skiers, it logs how many laps you take while for hikers and climbers on trails that go up and down it will tell you your true vertical height gained. The Vector has a 24-hour log and will also store up to 100 logs. The Pathfinder models can only hold up to 40 logs. The watch features a digital display with LED illumination. The screen is fully waterproof up to 30 m, making it perfect for swimmers and snorkellers, and comes with a silicone strap. One downside of this watch is the display. Many users have described it as dark and difficult to read in bright sunlight. The Suunto Core comes with many other features that would be useful to an outdoor sports enthusiast. It has a compass, sunrise and sunset information, notifications of severe weather, temperature, and depth gauge. It also functions as a basic watch with alarm, date, stopwatch and countdown timer. More Options Daily functions include dual time, date, alarm, sports chronograph and predicted times for sunrise and sunset This function also has a log and on the display, you will be able to view the general pressure trends as well as a summary graph of the last 24 hours.

Elsewhere, there are three alarms (to let you know when you've ascended, say, 100m), a stopwatch and a timer, as well as a thermometer. As you set the watch up, if you tell it where you are it will show sunrise and sunset times, too. Verdict This watch comes standard with a silicone wrist band which is comfortable against the skin, even when wet. We rarely found any problems while wearing this watch, but occasionally the slight bulkiness of the wristband interfered with typing if we spend a lot of time on the computer. Overall, though, the Suunto Core is average size, lightweight, and comfortable enough for all-day use.Given the current penchant for smartphone GPS apps such as RunKeeper and Nike+ Running that record exactly where you've been on a run, the Suunto Core's habit of logging your altitude gains and losses - and displaying them on a graph - will likely appeal to most users. It works for seven days, which should cover a week's worth of skiing, walking or mountain ascents. That being said, the Suunto Core’s barometer was incredibly accurate after two months of daily comparisons with a proper external barograph. Each day, the Core showed more or less the same pressure readings as the barograph, as well as the same pressure trends, so the problem lies in the elevation estimates, not the barometer itself. In the end, the Core has many of the same issues with accuracy as other barometer-based altimeters, but this is easily fixed with frequent calibration.

This Garmin MARQ watch is also equipped with an array of smart functions. These include a heart monitoring app, a hydration detection function, wireless connectivity to Bluetooth and Wifi, and ClimbPro, an app that gives you instant data on the climbs and gradients that await you on your route. All of these can be viewed on the watch’s colourful digital dial, which showcases legible numerals in red and blue hues along with blunt white hands for the time display. Since none of the buttons on the Core are labeled, it took a bit of time to get used to how it all functioned. However, after a few days of practice, it became more or less second nature. Ultimately, the Core is one of the most simple and intuitive, yet functional outdoor watches on the market today. Accuracy

A sports watch without GPS?

This outdoor watch tells you when a blast is coming with the storm alarm, with this you can make the most accurate decision on your way. In addition, you have an altimeter, barometer, thermometer, digital compass and barometric trend indicator. The pressure sensor works in four modes. The Suunto Core has an automatic alti-baro mode that detects movements or absence of movements, and changes accordingly. From the time mode, the users can also access three further functions, namely a stopwatch, countdown timer, and alarm. Alti & Baro Mode The handy declination adjustment takes on the job of calculating North, correcting the difference between true North and magnetic north with the minimum of fuss. Durable and Strong But, with so many different outdoor watches out there on the market today, it can be difficult to know if the Suunto Core is really the watch for you. To help you out, we’ve put together this in-depth review of the Suunto Core based on over 3 years of experience using this watch in pretty much any condition you can imagine and on nearly every continent on Earth. In the end, you can decide if it’s the right watch for your needs. First Impressions That said, there are some downsides to the Suunto Core, especially for those who frequently engage in water sports. If so, take a second look at the alternative timepieces we have listed above, all of which are top-tier outdoor watches in their own right. Each and every model certainly deserves a spot in your collection.

The Suunto Core has a clean and straightforward digital display, with a dark aesthetic that can go well with any style or outfit. Its interface is very user-friendly, with a large screen that bears pronounced letters and numerals for better legibility. Its different modes and functions are also all clearly labelled, which makes it easier to navigate this watch. One weakness of the Suunto Core, however, is that the layer of mineral glass used to protect the digital dial is quite reflective. As a result, when the watch is exposed to high-intensity light, this can cause light glares that distort the watch face and make it harder to read. At the end of the day, the Suunto Core is a solid all-around performer in the outdoor watch world. Although it’s a bit pricey, it truly proves its worth, thanks to its versatility, functionality, and durability. We find pretty much all of the Core’s features to be useful and it’s a stylish altimeter watch that is reliable enough to get the job done. What more could you want? Additional features include a countdown timer, a chronograph, four-language menu, alarm, alarm snooze feature and calendar. The watch comes with a rotating bezel. The watch's LED panel illuminates the dial to improve visibility during the night. Scratch-resistant mineral glass crystal adds to the resilience of the timepiece.

Suunto Core Review Specs:

This watch also has a built-in thermometer that can be useful in many situations. For an accurate measurement, it is advisable to remove the watch from your wrist at least 15 minutes before measuring the actual environmental temperature.
