Description

Lady Olynder helps your army do what it does best – grind the enemy down through attritional warfare. You’ll win with Nighthaunt not by shattering your opponent in a single turn, but by playing the long game, using your units’ inherent resilience, not to mention abilities that sustain and heal them, to outlast your enemies.

No Subfactions – In a rather baffling decision, Nighthaunts don’t have subfactions like other books. It was a launch battletome so it’s likely they did not know at the time those would be so important. Are the two separate units, extra CP, extra Artefact, and 5+ fnp worth 150 pts as opposed to just having a unit of 20 for 320? The Legion of the First Prince can draw on the unfathomable numbers of Be’lakor’s minions to grind their enemies down, represented by the Unyielding Legions battle trait.

Balefire Blade –Add 1 to the damage characteristic of a bearer’s melee weapon. Solid all around weapon choice. B Our goal is to build upon and consolidate the great work already being done by other community members across various forums, reddit threads, and hobby blogs, and bring together a comprehensive library of all these useful Build Instruction booklets.

The Nighthaunt book is pretty dry on Command traits. There aren’t a few different tables for each type of commander, it’s just one with 6. They’re pretty mediocre, so many will choose to run Lady Olynder as a General due to her special ability rather than getting a command trait, we’ll discuss what that does in her unit entry but it is pretty competitive. That’s at least 8 free wounds per game (on average) and potentially many more. The curse could easily clear a battleline unit per game. I’ve used the full Vanguard box including the Knight of Shrouds. This creates some issues with the choice of small heroes, for a 1000 point list I would normally prefer to use a Knight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed and a Guardian of Souls. Instead I’ve used Reiknor to provide some mobile threat and casting with the Knight of Shrouds. Shyish Reaper –Casting Value 7. A predatory spell that moves 8″ (12″ in Shyish), the controlling player can pivot it before moving it and for every model it passes over, roll a die, if the die rolls higher than their save characteristic, deal 1 mortal wound. Like Aethervoid pendulum but with more control, which kind of goes against why you’d take that spell (To keep an opponent from using it on you). Don’t bother. We are a small team of Warhammer Enthusiasts and miniature collectors, hoping to support and further promote the hobby. This list is meant to be straightforward and adaptable. Everything is in a battle regiment to give control of priority, however there is an option to place 3 of the battle line infantry into Expert Conquerors and the remainder into a Battle Regiment. Expert Conquerors makes the infantry count as 3 models on objectives – the Chainrasp would count as 60 models. Our Preference is to go second to make your opponent come to you (keep out of line of sight if they have shooting) and hopefully get the double turn. You can also redeploy up to 3 units via Vanishing Phantasms into reserve before the start of combat and then set them up in ambush (9” from the enemy). Immune to Rend –All of your units ignore modifiers to saves, positive or negative making high rend opposition useless. The downside is that they have no save against -2 Rend or better, realistically a charging Fulminator could remove the unit in one round.

Slitter –Before piling in, nominate a model within 1″ of the bearer and roll a die. If it is higher than the unit’s wound characteristic then it is slain. Good for a guaranteed extra killed model, and might occasionally tap a Hero too. B+ Naturally, the Daemons of Chaos get a few compelling options, but just take a look at this section of the table of contents – there are loads of interesting entries to ponder. Much more diversity in artefacts here, 3 tables with 6 weapons, 6 relics and 3 lanterns which are exclusively used by Guardian of Souls. Weapons of the Damned Poor Army Traits/Artefacts –As a launch battletome Nighthaunts have really mediocre army traits and artefacts. Cloak of the Waxing Moon –Makes the bearers feel no pain a 5+ instead of a 6+. Decent though you get better artefacts. BShadow’s Edge – Choose a melee weapon, on an unmodified 6 deal D3 Mortal wounds instead of a normal wound. Strap this to a D1 weapon otherwise you risk doing less damage. Otherwise its fine. B Be’lakor is a being of ancient evil who commands a vast host of Daemons – some coerced, some enslaved, and some that find common cause in the destruction of empires. A new allegiance option found in the book represents the Dark Master’s expansive army. In Shyish, Reikenor is known by many names - the Grimhailer, the Reaper-wraith and the Storm Rider among them. Sorcerer, master of terror, reaper of souls, fell lieutenant of Nagash - Reikenor is all these things and more. [1a]

When they were first introduced the Nighthaunt were competitive but they faded a little with the arrival of the Elves (Daughters of Khaine, Idoneth and finally Lumineth). As an army they reward considered play and take a little bit to get the best from. Nighthaunt suits a player that is willing to take their time and wants to make the most of their opponents’ mistakes.Reikenor the Grimhailer is an impressively aggressive-looking and sinister Nighthaunt miniature. His ethereal form is clad in a tattered cloak, beneath which is visible a skeletal mask, and thin arms grasping his weapon – a great scythe known as Fellreaper, which features a grave-sand filled hourglass hanging from a chain – and the reins of his mount, a winged Nightmare named Kyallaron Also, if you don’t think Revenants are worth it at all since they’re not much better than Reapers and they don’t count as battleline, then let me know as well.
