Three little monkeys, and their big monkey, are sitting high up on their branch in the forest canopy. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. From Chris Haughton comes a funny, suspenseful and keenly observed cautionary tale about pushing boundaries and indulging your more mischievous, cheeky side (when nobody is looking). A spectacular collection of four much-loved modern classics from the multi award-winning, internationally best-selling picture book creator, Oliver Jeffers, along with a captivating behind-the-scenes look at the making of each in four fascinating sketchbook sections. The story is so fun and simple but is filled with some great repetition which kids will enjoy and although the story isn’t too complex it still carries and teaches an important lesson about the importance of listening to warnings and also that danger can sometimes be lurking even when you think it is safe.

The illustrations are all so engaging and simple and there’s even one special one whick I really love which requires you to turn the book on its side to view it properly! The way to best do that it seemed to me was by introducing the tigers to the audience at the start and show more and more signs of them getting closer whilst the monkeys are unaware.

Each card is blank for your own message, and contains a small paragraph on the reverse with Daniel's creative thinking behind the image. The book is beautifully illustrated and Dylan loves spotting the tigers and telling the monkeys there IS a tiger there! While little crab becomes more and more fearful in the face of danger the little monkeys are egging each other on all the way. The title to be read and discussed is sign-posted and on sale for the whole of the previous month (with a discount for those who make it known they intend to come) and everybody is welcome, whether first-timer, part-timer or regular-timer. With his bold, exquisite artwork, Oliver Jeffers starts at the dawn of humankind following people on their journey from then until now, and then offers the reader a challenge: where do we go from here?

Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do.Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. Throughout the book, we read white, printed text and look forward to the changes of direction, zoom and background. His debut picture book, A Bit Lost, is published into 21 different languages worldwide and has won 13 awards in nine countries, including the Dutch Picture Book of the Year and CBI Book of the Year. I love how these cats look and especially how they are subtely visible in the background of some earlier pages which kids might enjoy trying to spot.

A must-have for every forward-thinking person who wants the next generation to inherit a world to be proud of.It’s a very engaging read and a book you can have even more fun with by acting out monkey sounds and tiger sounds. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! I love Haughton’s use of colour in this book, the monkeys are a contrast to the bright reddish world of their jungle and I love how you can see the expression on their faces which are especially funny when they are wondering if maybe something will be okay. But while waiting in the tree the three monkeys get hungry and they decide that maybe it’s okay to just look at the mangos.

Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. In this story, it is the opposite, big monkey asks the little monkeys to stay away from danger but the lure of danger proves too difficult to resist. My grandson is three and I’ve purchased all of Chris Haughton’s books for him and we have a grand time reading them together. Unfortunately I was finishing this off during the first covid lockdown and so I only managed to do this a handful of times with this book long before the pandemic. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. A powerful, thoughtful and bold comment on humanity and its future from one of today's most thought-provoking artists. With rare exceptions such as bank holidays, the book group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.
