Since a patent must be filed within one year of the invention, the earliest date for introduction of a golf ball with this dimple pattern must be around August 1,1988. This dimple pattern was designed so that the ball would have aerodynamic symmetry in flight regardless of its position on the tee or the ground.

In my golf ball collection there are three Spalding golf balls that appear on the USGA Conforming Golf Ball lists that have this dimple pattern.The TOP-FLITE XL II, which had only 410 dimples, had medium TDV, but surprisingly the highest trajectory, and medium roll.
