About this deal

This book ended up as a real page turner, as although a bit graphic at the start, when I nearly gave it up.

It’s not his most impressive work but for a quick read and a look into the world of media in the 90’s/early 00’s then it’s pretty interesting and enjoyable. So I wrote The Poet with the idea that it would be a thrill ride with enough reader fulfillment at the end to overcome the dissatisfaction of having the killer ultimately get away. He then learns that her father, a cop, had been suspected of molesting her and committed suicide when she was a teenager.

It’s graphic and horrifying and makes the reader naturally uncomfortable, which are the book’s strengths AND weaknesses.

As an investigative journalist, McEvoy makes an interesting addition to Connelly’s character arsenal.

I had a problem with this, as I did with key character McEvoy's unrealistic involvement with the FBI investigation. While there are lots to like in this story, there are a few issues that leave this listener unfulfilled. His books, which include the Harry Bosch series and the Lincoln Lawyer series, have sold more than eighty million copies worldwide. So it seems like the old Rocky Mountain News had some pretty sloppy business practices going on when it came to covering stories. Surprise at the circumstances of his brother’s death prompts Jack to look into a whole series of police suicides, and puts him on the trail of a cop killer whose victims are selected all too carefully.
