About this deal

Fraser, 46, published her memoir Coming Clean: a True Story of Love, Addiction and Recovery in September, detailing how Mike, the man she fell deeply in love with - and is now separated from - descended into a life of chaos as his addiction consumed him. A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. Liz is totally unaware about alcoholism, having never been around it or learned anything about what is involved. I almost didn’t because I simply couldn’t stop rolling my eyes at the constant excuse-making that the author made for her boyfriends behaviors. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. But what I really struggled was the way in which she claimed to be the victim of the abuse by an alcoholic and suffered such terrible things as a result of Mike’s addiction.Wouldn’t that be the conclusion of a sensible person, who genuinely cared for their partner and wanted the best for their family? MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author.

My saving grace was that, whilst being a very abusive binge drinker, I was never alcohol dependent and the physical recovery didn't take long. I hope that her story will help readers who live with alcoholism or are involved with someone who is. I have fortunately never suffered alcohol abuse but I'm curious about other people who have risen from the depths of despair.

As a child who lived with an alcoholic I found it interesting to imagine what I would have written when reflecting on the stories which mirrored our experiences.

A very honest account of love and alcoholism documenting the sudden and unpredictable rollercoaster of one man’s descent into the disease. Recovery is not an easy journey for either of them but all hail for Sober Mike because Drunk or Hungover Mike is a weak, unpleasant narcissist and I sincerely hope his daughter never sees that side of him. Overall an insightful , wry and in your reading of a condition that we all are potentially vulnerable to. Love Island All Stars fans slam Liberty Poole for crying over Mitchel Taylor again despite pair's bitter split: 'They broke up like 10 times!Liz bravely opens up about her own mental health which gives an insight into the anxieties around that. It's high time that there was more out there for those of us who do or have had to struggle with this illness and Fraser gives it her best shot here.
