Feed Me Vegan: For All Occasions is full of easy recipes for everyday veganism , from a quick, week night pasta to blow-out Sunday feasts .Take the fairly nondescript sounding ‘Hot Chocolate’ recipe for example, which includes cacao (standard), cinnamon (nice twist), amaretto (oh yeah) and Baileys (GOOD LORD).

I would have found this inspiring if I were new to veganism/vegetarianism, but I’ve been eating this way for a decade now and have cooked all of these kinds of recipes (or a variation of them) before. So, if you are looking at kicking meat/dairy into touch and are intimidated at the thought; this lady seems to have made the idea somewhat more palatable, (and less intimidating) with some smashing ideas of her own. I had no idea who the author was having never watched the programme, and I may not have bought it had I known as I may have thought it a gimmick.

The recipes in this cookbook range from healthy to junk food, which is exactly what I was looking for. There were a few steps but nothing complicated – sauté onion, garlic and chilli with the spices, add beans and tomatoes and simmer for 15 mins. There were a few steps including pre-cooking the macaroni, frying off two types of mushrooms with some herbs and making a béchamel sauce.

The recipes I have tried so far have worked out so I am assuming they have been thoroughly tested before inclusion.I often make a vegan choice when I'm eating out and it's available but it's harder to give up staple favourites for cooking. You would be amazed at the amount to cookery books that get it wrong, be it measurements or method or simply resulting in unappetising food. Everyone’s oven cooks differently of course so I can only comment on how the recipe worked in mine and you may not have the same problem.
