About this deal

The disapproving parents, the tiny creature that speaks in a funny way and the older family member that hates one of the main characters. Wish is a girl from a warrior tribe and Xar is a boy from a wizard tribe, living in a world loosely based on Ancient Britain at the beginning of the Iron Age, but where magic is real. This is my first read of Cressida Cowell's books and I can say the writing style so different from the usual book I've read.

The book is filled with whimsical settings, from magical forests to bustling cities, each described in such detail that it feels like you are right there alongside the characters. There would be a lot to delve into about authorial intent if you were to study this book with a class. It's a great start to a new series and I'm already looking forward to the second book that is coming out this year in September! Theo and Mabel Smith (their stepsiblings) do not like the O'Heros and are highly suspicious of them and try to make their lives a misery. The names are a bit childish, like K2 or Izzabird (which is reminiscent of the names of characters in her other books, like Hiccup and Gobber).

There were Cyril and Horizabel and THE EXCORIATOR and Vorcxix, two aunts and two speaking robots, there was family history, a possibly planet destroying government, auras, a tree cure, pirates and bounty hunters and it felt like too much for one book. This book has also got brilliant grey drawings, they make me laugh because they have little features that are similar with the characters in the author's other books. This is the perfect balance of silly and sentimental, with scenes in the third act worthy of tissues. Which Way to Anywhere is an inventive midgrade portal fantasy featuring maps, robots and latent superpowers.I felt like there were too many characters, magical objects and otherworldly beings to get to know the main characters. They are the kind of illustrations that are beautiful but also super unintimidating, the kind that make kids want to get out a pencil and draw their own pictures.

The O'Hero siblings K2 and Izzabird are sworn by their mother and aunts to keep the O'Hero family magical secrets from everyone including their step-siblings Theo and Mabel Smith and new step-father Daniel. However, a number of strange and wonderful things happen that mean that they have to work together and put their differences aside if they are to save the world. From the bestselling author of How to Train Your Dragon and The Wizards of Once comes an out-of-this-world new adventure. THE EXCORIATOR vs The Abhorroghast is one of a long list of reasons why CC will remain my favourite. In the end I had to pace myself and limit my reading time to just one chapter a day so I could savour it longer.
