It’s full of great lore and artwork for the Votann, but doesn’t contain any of the current, valid rules. Votann units get +1 to hit enemy units with one Judgment token, and an additional +1 to wound targets with two tokens. Yes, we’ve had Genestealer Cults, Adeptus Mechanicus and Imperial and Chaos Knights in the past, but these were all based on existing concepts.

The Leagues of Votann Army Set promises a brand-new faction (well, not entirely brand new), a host of new miniatures, and a box full of goodies. Anyhow, aside from my struggles to pronounce a word I had never seen before, this box was/is pretty amazing. As you can also see, there are some quite beefy sprue gates on a few of the larger components too, so make sure you take your time to remove these with care.You’ve got 2 HQ options, up to 2 Troops (if you split the Hearthkyn into two units) and a Fast Attack option with the Hernkyn Pioneers. To us, it seems most likely that these figures will retail in boxes on 10 when they are eventually released – after all, most Warhammer 40,000 troop units tend to clock in around that kind of number. There are two reasons for this: the first are the handful of teensy criticisms I had with a couple of the figures.

Those who are new to the Kin may not know that they were considered almost completely wiped out by Tyranids, this in part because the majority of the race live in the galactic core, a portion of space inhospitable to most other races, and they don’t often venture out. We’re primarily a site for miniature painters and modelers and are usually far too busy painting stuff to notice everyone’s getting cross about rules, but if it breaks through to us then it must be a pretty big deal.
