Following their example, hussar regiments were introduced into at least twelve European armies by 1800. On the outside of such breeches, running up the outside was a row of buttons, and sometimes a stripe in a different colour. The NCO wore coloured stripes on both lower sleeves if the cuffs were horizontal, or chevrons if the cuffs were pointy.
