I have loved writing and talking about books online for the last seven or so years and that passion has been growing to the point where I wondered if I shouldn't look to make it my job rather than just my hobby. It follows the same pattern as the short stories and I had the sneaky feeling throughout that I had read these plots before. For example, through the interaction between William's father and brother at the dinner table at the start of the book a power dynamic is highlighted (which is often strained by William's antics! Scruffy, mud-stained and mischievous, William is a lovable scamp whose hilarious pranks usually end in disaster - for his harassed elders at least. This leaves a trail on the road for the police to follow who ultimately catch and foil the gang of fur robbers. The father/son relationship is brilliantly drawn, Ross has not been there for much of Jeffrey’s life and there is an awkwardness about their every exchange intensified by the strangeness of the surroundings.Val Guest had some troubles working with children but said otherwise production went smoothly and both William films were "very successful. After a series of unlikely adventures, the boys serendipitously foil a gang of fur-coat smugglers, and receive a reward from the police. I wouldn’t want to give too much plot away – this is a novel of ideas rather than plot anyway – but Jeffrey is a character far more interested in living the life he has been allotted rather than one that might be gifted now or promised for the future.
