I initially tried this neat and the nose was smokey with a sweetness not unlike peat, a little bit of water allowed the chocolate and coffee through as well as hints of ginger and orange with the smoke more in the background. Some casks will previously have been used to mature oloroso, fino or amontillado sherries; some will have contained bourbon and some will be oak. This process creates a Whisky which has notes of Malty Spice which is infused with Sweet notes of Vanilla.The palate opens with chocolate, walnut and citrus fruit, followed by coffee, liquorice, salted bananas and brown sugar, with a whisper of smoke emerging on the finish.

It has the subtle smoke characteristic of Jura's excellent Island single malts, with robust vanilla and an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath. Light golden, yellow in colour, the nose is light clean and fresh, with a hint sea salt, almonds, and spice notes.

The last major rebuild of the distillery was in 1963, from whence it has been producing a variety of single malts. The driver will input your year of birth into their device and may then require an ID check to complete the age verification process.
