About this deal

Marshall skillfully skips back in forth in time, building unrelenting tension in this utterly riveting psychological thriller. Women who lived that life at school – who felt like they existed only on the periphery of the popular crowd – are likely to emphasise with her. Friend Request by Laura Marshall had raving reviews and endorsements from Jenny Colgan, Marian Keyes and Erin Kelly. This is definitely going to be an author that I keep my eye out for and read every subsequent release!

Louise is a smart person, computer literate and she goes through all the expected steps to find out who sent the request. Now, many of us probably don't have to worry about dead old classmates coming back to life to haunt us, but it makes an excellent story in a book. Flashing back twenty-five years prior, Maria Weston is the new girl in school, and she isn't exactly well liked. Moving back and forth between the events as sixteen-year-old school pupils in Norfolk and the non violent bullying and emotional blackmail of her friendship with dominant Sophie the reader is able to appreciate just how Louise was pilloried into ostracising Maria as she herself clung to the coat tails of the popular clique at school. I have to say, I do use the social media network more than I care to admit, which is why the title of this book grabbed my attention, mainly because I have been dealing with a spate of weird friend request recently, and they always creep me out.

And knowing the extent of the dominating relationship she had with him in the past, I don't understand why she's still all a-tremble in his presence. Mean girls, bullying in highschool, cliques and wanting to be one of the in crowd, subjects covered in many books. Sometimes just looking at someone's Facebook page can bring back teenage feelings, insecurities from a time when all you wanted was to be liked.

I didn't trust anyone, and all of the characters seemed shady, the only one who was obviously innocent was L. Now though, I’d be grateful for marketing spam, and I long to go back to the mild tedium of a few minutes ago. The ending is an ugly shock, not my favorite ending of all time, but it definitely is a plausible one. This is a good debut thriller: full of tension and successfully exploring modern concerns around social networking and bullying while fully embedding them in the plot. I can just see one of the tower blocks that loom here and there like malevolent giants over the rows of Victorian terraces all turned into flats like mine that make up this part of south-east London. The only certainty is that Maria Weston disappeared that night, never to be heard from again–until now. I simply couldn't put it down - such a fast-paced, exciting thriller with some unexpected twists and turns. O plástico em que o livro veio estava com muita poeira, mas acho que isso e devido ao transoorte e não vejo como um grande problema.
