Buying this kit as a whole can save players a significant amount of money compared to purchasing each miniature individually. I was very happy with the laser sight effect for my Sternguard. The conversion is simple, but intuitive: I inject medication and accumulate used hypodermic needles. I sterilised some needles and blunted the tips, before inserting them into a pilot hole on the weapon. They’re painted as normal. Medical-grade hypodermic needles provide great strength and flexibility that is perfect for a piece that needs to be perfectly straight, but must resist occasional bumps in transit. Thundercloud1: Good to see Mechanicus represented. The orange gives a coherence to the force, and the conversion on the rangers means you can much more easily tell them apart from the Vanguard. I like them. What makes Kommandos an inspired choice for a Boarding Patrol is their Kunnin’ Infiltratorsability, allowing them to deploy anywhere on the board, as long as it is more than 9″ away from enemy models and deployment zone. This will give you the advantage right away – you can plop your Kommandos on unclaimed objectives out of both your and your opponent’s reach. Either that, or surprise them with the gift of Throat Slittas – meaning if you are within an inch of a terrain feature (so hug those walls tightly), add 1 to wound rolls. If you prefer to stand in the middle of a crowded corridor, you can have your Distraction Grot come out for once per battle and the Kommandos are treated as if they are within an inch of terrain, allowing you to capitalise on their unique abilities no matter where they are placed on the board. Everyone is painted in the Iron Panthers’ characteristic dark blue, with white and red accents. Heraldry and squad markings are present, but vary from unit to unit. The decision to base them on arctic bases was intentional, as my entire army is arctic warfare themed. Despite being a ‘boarding’ patrol, I didn’t have affordable access to space hulk bases and didn’t want to break my army theme.
Allarus Custodians: These elite warriors are masters of boarding actions, dominating gangways with their guardian spears or castellan axes. Two of them can alternatively be built as a Shield-Captain or Vexilus Praetor in Allarus Terminator Armour, giving you even more tactical options. Thundercloud1: Brian Smith has a blue Custodes boarding patrol (Custodes seem to be real popular, is it the low model count?) and they’ll look striking on a dinghy space hulk board. The force is led by a Lieutenant, rather than a company-level commander. The heart of the force consists of Infiltrators for reconnaissance by force, and Veteran Intercessors with assaut. The boarding shields are a nod to the Medusan Immortals of yore. Heavy fire support is provided by Eradicators, whose ability to melt bulkheads, doors and heavy resistance would prove invaluable in the confines of a space hulk. Lastly, the unit is anchored by a squad of Sternguard Veterans who have crossed the Rubicon Primaris. These fine troops are drawn from the vaunted First Company and bring centuries of expertise and an array of unique equipment. Where everyone else has a fairly specialised role, the Sternguard plant their feet and hold the line. Thundercloud1: Primaris are a blast to paint, and this all big boys boarding patrol looks set to dominate boarding patrol games with a mix of horrific firepower and melee mayhem.
Jokes aside, this Boarding Patrol is the one with the least models – 9 in total. If you’re new to Custodes, you may be thinking, ‘Really? Only 9 models?’. But veteran Custodes players will know this is not GW skimping – it’s that these units are expensive in game – as running Custodes lists generally are. While a case of the sniffles or festering pustules are not the kind of blessings you’d want to receive from Nurgle, your bank balance will definitely appreciate these savings at almost 50% off the total models if bought individually. The savings are practically on par with Boarding Patrol: Chaos Space Marines – and that had Abaddon the Despoiler in it. Though comparatively, Boarding Patrol: Death Guard has less models in it, the infantry and elite units have much higher points value (and general play value) than the 20 cultists in the Chaos box. Boarding Patrol: Death Guard – Contents The Adeptus Custodes, revered as demigods of war, are a powerful force engineered to defend the Emperor at any cost. In their quest to protect their distant master, they venture out into the stars and take on dangerous missions, even infiltrating space hulks to eradicate any threat. If you’ve seen our previous Boarding Patrol articles, you’ll see we’ve included points value and commentary on how to maximise what’s in the box for the tabletop – the side of the hobby that is sometimes forgotten over the sheen of ‘ooh, shiny model’. Not me though. Let’s see what the Sons of Mortarion can offer us. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved. This wasn’t just a painting challenge done in a reduced timeframe. A substantial amount of worldbuilding and converting went into every single squad – this is standard for me. This was the most painting I’ve done in a very long while. I probably did 4 months of painting in the span of 2 months, and once again pushed my skill and techniques up by a notch. I learned a great deal and came away with a cohesive infantry force. I am profoundly happy to showcase what I’ve got.
These New 40k Boarding Patrol Values Are The Best Yet!
For Warhammer 40,000 players, the Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Custodes is a must-have addition to their collection. This elite force of gold-clad warriors is perfect for sundering enemies, particularly in the dense and treacherous Boarding Action missions outlined in the Arks of Omen series. The Emperor’s finest are the prime bulwark against Abaddon’s nefarious schemes, and this Boarding Patrol is typical of their brutal efficiency in such matters. You’ll be able to face any foe with a highly customisable Primaris Captain in Gravis armour, five Heavy Intercessors, and 10 Assault Intercessors. Finally, the Death Guard heed Abaddon’s call, with an obdurate if slimy Boarding Patrol led by a Lord of Virulence. He’s joined by a bodyguard of three Deathshroud Terminators, as well as 10 versatile Plague Marines – three of which are taken from the much-sought-after Plague Marine Reinforcements set. Using this box’s contents alone, you’d have to make the hard choice of subtracting models – you could individually take away a Custodian Guard or Allarus Custodian, but were it me, I would take out the Captain-General Trajann Valoris. While he is a very powerful HQ unit, he eats points like a Tyranid hive fleet, and by taking him out, you have 95 points left over to spend. Naturally, this would mean having to buy an extra unit of something to make a battle-ready list, which is not ideal. To make a legal list, I would subtract the good Captain-General and sub in a squad of Sisters of Silence to have some infantry to even things out, leaving the heavy hitting to the already busting Custodes.
She’s joined by five Celestian Sacresants, nine Sisters Repentia whipped into a frenzy by a Repentia Superior, and 10 Battle Sisters who can be built as Dominions or Celestians, plus one Cherub lugging a censer along for the ride (because these ships can smell a bit after millennia in the warp and the STC for pine-scented air fresheners is sadly lost to the Age of Strife). Boarding Patrol: Adeptus CustodesThe post-Rubicon Sternguard Veterans turned out wonderfully. Where the other units represent uniformity and modernity, the Sternguard bring tradition and legacy. This squad was a joy to build. I took bodies from the Indomitus Bladeguard Veterans for the classic tabard look, and Hellblaster bodies with Gravis pauldrons for the armoured look. I wanted the Sternguard to act as a strong contrast to the rest of the unit. Where the others represent no-fuss, uniformed modernity of my chapter, these veterans bear the honoured ways from before the Cicatrix Maledictum opened. These troops are living proof that tradition has a place, and the chapter can always look to its veterans for battlefield mastery.
There is a slight problem here. The Dawneagle Captain doesn’t really have his own kit. You’ll need to buy a box of 3. But you can roll those two extras into the unit of 3 from above for a unit of 5. Or you can do what I would do which is to buy a third box and split them into two units of 4. So what are we looking at points wise now with a Dawneagle Captain and 5 more Vertus Praetors? Cinderak City has fallen, but the succession crisis on Necromunda is far from over. The Aranthian Succession: Vaults of Temenos continues the sweeping narrative laid out in Cinderak Burning , as a mysterious Prophet guides hordes of true believers on a pilgrimage to recover holy relics from the depths of Tenemos. The miniatures themselves are highly detailed and beautifully sculpted, with intricate armor and weaponry that reflect the advanced technology of the Imperium. Players can customize their units with different weapons and gear, allowing for a high degree of personalization and strategy. Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Custodes is a miniatures game from Games Workshop set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. In this game, players take on the role of the Adeptus Custodes, a highly skilled and elite group of warriors tasked with protecting the Imperium of Man.Both the Allarus Custodians and Custodian Guards do splendidly in range and melee combat. Allarus Custodians have the privilege of Teleport Homer, meaning they can be redeployed elsewhere on the board 9″ away from enemy units. As we’ve covered in previous Boarding Patrol articles, any unit that can disappear and reappear somewhere else is extremely useful and will want to be used very strategically – imagine squatting some beefy Custodians on unclaimed objectives, giving your opponent thought for pause before they consider taking it for themselves. These are sort of like small Combat Patrol boxes explicitly made to be fielded for the new Boarding Actions. So, expect them all to have a lot of foot sloggers. Every unit in this box has Teleport Strike, meaning you don’t have to deploy right away. They can be set up in reserve and be deployed in the reinforcements step in future movement phases anywhere on the board you’d like – as long as it is 9″ away from enemy units. This will put you at significant advantage, as it gives you more opportunity and time to plan exactly where you can put your models in the most strategic places – on unclaimed objectives, or behind your foe’s models. In Boarding Actions, any unit with similar ability are invaluable.
