This story, like Reeve’s others, also place emphasis on self-reliance and the importance of friends and family. I read the first chapter of Pugs of the Frozen North to my lovely new class this morning - I'd only planned to read one chapter to them but they were SO desperate for more that I just had to read a second and then they went on at me so much when I finished the second chapter to carry on that I had to read the third chapter and then we were late for PE but they LOVED it! This was my favorite by far, which is really saying something; my seven-year-old says he loves this as much as he loved Oliver and the Seawigs (the first of them), which is also really saying something, because, as he explained, "I love Oliver a LOT. At the top of the page, they draw the title of their comic, which is the name of that particular kind of snow (Singing Snow, Shrink Snow, Farting Snow, Giggle Snow, etc). Sarah is immensely proud of Britain's amazing illustrators and how well their pictures tell stories.

I found myself so caught up in this exciting adventure that I really didn’t want it to come to an end. The story is packed full of jokes, characters and incident and the plentiful illustrations, with their suitably icy green palette, are equally delightful with lots of detail.For an extra challenge, children could create harnesses for their creatures and draw on coloured paper a picture of themselves riding their sled. What follows is a really exciting adventure through a frozen world, inhabited with snow trolls, sea monsters, the Kraken, hungry yetis and fifty different kinds of snow. Shen and Sika are great protagonists (and I coded Sika and her family as Inuit or some other northern indigenous people which is nice).

You can feature one kind of snow per child (‘a selection of the 50 kinds of snow in Pugs of the Frozen North’) or show all 50 kinds. However, it has lots of fantastic illustrations, which not only break up the text for the more reluctant reader, but also helps the story appeal to a younger audience, as well as being good to read aloud. I'd recommend this book to anyone with kids ~7 and up, or a couple years earlier if, like me when I was a kid, they are a voracious reader. In the top right corner, draw the North Pole (possibly an actual pole, with a label reading 'North Pole').What I liked most is that you can turn snow into anything you want as well as the noodle bar with yeti! Pugs of the Frozen North” is written so well that adults can enjoy the story and not find it cloying or juvenile.
