Straight-tipped pins, those that are cut and shoved into the pad of the brush and sold can actually cause scrapes on the dog’s skin and even brush burn. We will look at the main types of dog brushes, what each dog brush and comb does and what fur / coat type and issues each brush is useful for. Combo brush: With two brushes on one handle, these are usually a bristle brush on one side and a pin brush on the other. Poodle hair requires intensive grooming. You will have to regularly brush, trim their fur, and clip their naturally curly fur. If you neglect to brush and groom your Poodle regularly, they will develop terrible mats that start to pull at their skin. You may even have to shave off the mats if you don’t brush your Poodle.

What is the purpose of every dog brush and what is best dog brush for each dog coat type? Which dog brush should you be using on your dog? Think of a bristle brush as a finishing brush for most fur types, to remove debris, distribute natural healthy oils and give a super look and shine to the coat. So once tangles and undercoats etc... have been dealt with using other tools or brushes, go over the coat in the direction of the fur growth with a bristle brush to give a lovely finish to the coat. Blow drying after bath definitely helps. We have a whole team to help out, but my dogs are very used to it. We have a grooming table to put the dogs on. One person runs the blow dryer, another combs or brushes, and sometimes another will dremel the paws. It all depends on how pushed for time we are. And the time line is not an exaggeration. When I send Rory out for a pro grooming prior to big shows, they have him for 5 hours. Even my Smooth Chow is about 2 hours to fully dry and brush out...after the actual bath.

Be very careful about giving your dog bones – the only bones a dog should have are those which do not splinter and large enough that they cannot be swallowed or become wedged across the mouth. Stagbars (pieces of deer antler) are completely natural, ethically sourced and ideal for puppies as well as older dogs. Chewing releases “happy” chemicals in the dog’s brain which help to make the dog calm and contented. This is why, chastising a dog harshly for chewing something they should not have can cause the dog stress such that he looks to alleviate that stress by… you guessed it…. chewing! You may also give nylabones, or (my Hav’s personal favourite) Dentastix, which she has last thing at night. Chewing helps the teething puppy but do not leave a puppy unattended with anything it might chew pieces off as the pup could choke. Instead, if the puppy is going to be unattended opt for a chew he cannot get pieces off – a Stagbar or chew toy (inspect chew toys frequently to make sure they have not become so well chewed that there is a danger that pieces may come off. Trimming Nails You first want to buy a high-quality brush with thin and long needles. The needles shouldn’t be sharp because you don’t want to scratch your Poodles skin.

Another double-sided comb with both wide and fine teeth, you can ensure your little friend remains matt free and comfortable. The teeth are rounded at the tips so grooming will be a pleasant and comfortable experience for your dog while the rounded plastic handle makes it comfortable for you too. Wooden pins glide through the hair easily and are a great starter brush for puppies, senior dogs or dogs with sensitive skin. If you’re looking for the best brush for standard Poodles, you’ll want the head of the brush to be bigger to make grooming time efficient. However, if you need the best brush for toy Poodles, a smaller brush will be more suitable and ensure you can access those hard-to-reach areas. Durability Curry brush: These are made of rubber or soft plastic and gently remove dirt and loose hair from the coat. They can also be used in the bath to work the shampoo into the coat and remove more loose hair. As mentioned above, shedding isn’t exactly a top concern for poodles. However, if you are interested in really taming any shedding that may exist, consider the FURminator Undercoat Deshedding Tool for Dogs This specially designed grooming tool reaches deep into the coat to gently lift and remove any lingering hair.As the owner of a Havanese you are going to do a lot of grooming. Having the right equipment will make all the difference in whether this is a pleasant experience for your puppy or not. You will need to groom your puppy whether you keep him in his natural long-haired state, or whether you choose to have him in cut shorter in a puppy clip. Some people think a shorter coat is easier to manage, but easier does not mean maintenance free! Here is a list of what I would say are the essentials; items I think you absolutely cannot do without – other grooming tools are useful and good but for starters make sure you have these:- The product is made in the USA without any parabens or sulfates. . If you notice your dog is irritated in any way by the spray, then you should stop using it, but it is perfectly safe and effective to help you brush out those tangles. 2. Pet Head Dog’s BFF Detangling Spray The brush you choose can really make a difference in your poodle’s health and the health of your poodle. It also makes grooming your poodle faster and much more pleasant for both you and your puppy. You can also bathe your dog a little more often when he’s shedding to cut down on the dead fur that falls from his coat. Bathing your dog helps loosen dead fur so it comes out easily when he’s dry and you’re brushing him. If your dog is having skin problems, a medicated shampoo can be a good idea. For dry, itchy skin, an oatmeal shampoo is often recommended. There are also some shampoos that are recommended specifically to help with deshedding.
