It's painful, but hope is just on the horizon. It's tragic, but smiles filter through the darkness in Ashley, Madison and Lunas faces. It seems all is lost in ashes, but Phoenix rises and how!. I loved everything and totally grieved with both Eason and Bree, for their loss and the devastating truths that were uncovered. I also loved that their love developed over time and that they didn’t just jumped each other the first chance they got. I loved Eason so much, that man was just all sorts of special. And Bree, she was amazing. Such great characters and character development. And the kids! They were precious! on paper that sounds like an interesting combination! in practice. . . meh. idk, if it's me or what, but dear lord i STRUGGLED to feel the chemistry between Eason and Bree. S-T-R-U-G-G-L-E-D. this is probably one of the few times where i thought the MCs should've stayed friends. simply put, i liked their dynamic wayyyy better as friends - The hero was pretty awesome and the heroine is pretty great too. A strong woman who is a great mother and can be a badass ceo too. He is also an amazing dad. She never allowed herself to know the real Eason, until tragedy forces her to know who he really is.

Poignant to the point of acute pain, a story about love lost with no closure, be prepared to cry in frustration all through.

Okay so even the parts of this book that were supposed to be the interesting parts ( the first half ) just didn’t work for me. I just didn’t feel drawn to this story nor the characters. It was just such a forgettable book. I really only read it b/c I saw a TikTok of people raving about it and the way it was marketed out to be was a lot better than the execution. Like WOW he saved his enemy instead of his wife? YEAH I THOUGHT IT WAS ENEMIES TO LOVERS CAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS. IT WAS NOT. They were NEVER enemies, they just were indifferent towards one another. Either barely interacting or giving awkward hugs. The potential was there though, however like I said execution fell short. If you liked this, I am sincerely glad you enjoyed it! But unfortunately it just wasn’t for me, and that’s okay! :) How they survived it all was a beautiful story that had me feeling their grief and their triumphs. And all the love… My heart really was pummeled along with theirs making this one of my top reads of the year. A new favourite from a fave author – I want to give it ALL the stars! ~Diane, 5++ starsHeat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. On the other hand, Rob and Bree are financially stable, own their own business, have two children, get along well, and have a pretty healthy romantic life.

Overall, this book is Aly Martinez’ signature brand of awesome and I loved every second of it. Definitely my favorite book of 2021 by far! Very few authors get to me like she does, and I just can’t wait to read what she’ll come up with next! I forgot why I loved Aly Martinez' writing so much, and I'm glad for the reminder. I'm off to play catch up with her other books that I've missed out on. Bree and Eason’s relationship. INITIALLY, I really did love the way this developed. Although they’d been in each others lives for a long time. Their feelings of indifference towards one another developed into a beautiful friendship and partnership and eventually as a romantic relationship. They were able to connect and really find their way through the grief together.We have two couples and a tragic fire that leads to solo parenting by the survivors. Eason is married to Jessica and they have a baby, Luna. Rob is married to Bree and they have two young children as well. Best friends married best friends. At the very start of the book, it’s clear that Eason and Jessica are having marriage troubles. Eason is a struggling musician and Jessica is a stay-at-home mom who is tired of their financial problems. Eason had a record deal that fell through, they’ve had to watch their pennies, but Eason has decided to make changes in his career to help ease their money issues. Jessica is excited and they’re going to celebrate with their best friends, Rob and Bree. They’re going to have a game night together. Eason delivers Luna to Rob and Bree’s house as they’ve volunteered to have their babysitter watch all three kids. Rob and Bree also decide to bring expensive wine and Champagne to game night to toast the good news. Right from the beginning I could tell Eason would do anything for his family and friends but since life had thrown some bumps his way that prevented him truly giving everything, he promised Jessica his wife one thing was for sure, that he kept trying! A horrible accident ruins their lives and from its ruination emerges the true personalities of each & every character present.
