Description

I would have much preferred to see this telescope with a simple manual altazimuth mount than the equatorial mount. The equatorial mount makes it harder to do more free-handed viewing and requires a more rigid approach which I feel does not mix with the specifications of this telescope. The mount is a German equitorial mount referred to as the CG-3 by Celestron and it’s a fairly competent mount despite its somewhat flimsy build quality according to users.

Assembling your own telescope might seem daunting at first, especially for beginners in astronomy. However, rest assured that Celestron has designed its Astromaster line with accessibility in mind. With patience and attention to detail, you’ll soon be able to enjoy stunning views of Jupiter’s moons or distant galaxies thanks to your very own Celestron Astromaster 130EQ. Limitations of Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ:Great newtonian telescope, amazing views of dark skies and planets, but definitely not for beginners The AstroMaster 130EQ reflector telescope is a well-rounded instrument that comes equipped with Starry Night astronomy software. This feature allows users to delve into the night sky through a virtual setting, enhancing their astronomical experience and providing them with an opportunity to learn more about planets, stars, and celestial objects. The Sky-Watcher Heritage 130p offers the same aperture as the 130EQ but with better optics, better accessories, a collapsible tube, and a simple tabletop Dobsonian mount. Included in this kit are two fully coated glass optics eyepieces: 20mm and 10mm. The 20mm with built-in erect image corrector provides a 33x optical magnification that is wide enough to locate deep-sky objects whilst also providing excellent detail. The 10mm eyepiece provides a 65x magnification for highly detailed observations of the Moon craters and seas, the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn and the expansive Milky Way. Both eyepieces are manufactured to Celestron’s high-quality standards to ensure a bright, sharp view of the night sky every time. The 130mm (5.1 inches) aperture is slightly wider than the 60mm you get from very basic telescopes. But it’s still limited to planetary and lunar observations.

The Celestron Astromaster 130EQ is a great entry-level telescope for beginners who want to explore the night sky. With its 130mm aperture and 650mm focal length, it can provide clear views of planets, stars, galaxies, and other deep-space objects. If you are looking for a capable and versatile telescope to observe planets, galaxies and stars, the AstoMaster 130EQ is not it. The equatorial mount is very heavy and of solid built quality but the pointers are just not right and you can't be sure which degree u are setting on it.The 130mm aperture of the AstroMaster 130EQ is a significant feature, providing substantial light-gathering capacity, which is crucial for reflector telescopes. This capability allows for brighter and clearer images, especially under dark-sky conditions. Its combination of affordability and ease of use make it a great choice for beginners looking to explore all that our universe has to offer. What can you see with the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ? The Celestron Astromaster 130EQ also comes with Starry Night astronomy software which can help users locate celestial objects in the sky. However, there are some limitations to this telescope. Its plastic focuser is not very durable and may cause image distortion if not used carefully. Additionally, the mount may need frequent adjustments during use. The eyepieces are average and are to be expected at this price point. The 20mm eyepiece did seem to create internal reflections, marring the narrow true field of view of just 0.9 degrees (the Full Moon’s angular diameter is just 0.5 degrees, for comparison). The 10mm eyepiece is perhaps the best of the two, but the eye relief on both is quite poor - you have to push your eyes right up into the eyepiece cup to see anything, making for uncomfortable viewing, and almost impossible viewing for spectacle wearers.

For those who are new to astronomy, OTA means ‘optical tube assembly,’ which is essentially the main body of a telescope. The Celestron Astromaster 130EQ comes with an OTA that has a focal length of 650 mm and an aperture of 130 mm, making it ideal for viewing deep-space objects such as galaxies and nebulae.

Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ Telescope

Great for viewings faint objects in the sky as all types of light can pass through the lenses (this isn’t the case for a refractor)
