Description
However, what the Kestrel 38 has over the Exos 38 is its slimmer and more environmentally conscious design.
This is another essential feature. Having a rain cover is absolutely crucial for most hiking or travel adventures and you should not set off without one ( OK granted, there are some places on earth where it never rains, but not many!). Whereas the Stratos 36 tends to compress gear when you’re making certain motions or carrying certain types of items, the Kestrel 38 does not. Overall, I would recommend the Kestrel 38 over the Stratos 36 due to its versatility in various hiking situations. Osprey Kestrel 38 Pros & Cons Well, its fabric itself is not entirely waterproof, which is a downside in my opinion. Nevertheless, Osprey did bring a solution for that. The Osprey Kestrel 38 has side zippers so it is easier for you to reach your stuff in the main compartment. Speaking of the main compartment, you can access using the sleeping bag compartment as well, which is very convenient.
I have to say it's very hard to really work out the differences between the various Osprey models? Do they have a comparison table anywhere? Haven't seen one......... Beneath this is the main, top-loading compartment, which is opened and closed using a drawstring, or there’s also zippered side access down one flank and access from the bottom too. Nice. It is just a great way to keep everything at its place. It is also important to mention that the separation between this compartment and the main is removable, so it is entirely up to your preference. Lightweight Also, IMHO it is better to have the extra space and not need it (I can allow my fleece to fill the space and breathe), than to have to strap stuff on the outside to make up for it. There is always this annoying cover you just can’t roll your sleeping bag into. That issue gets more severe in the mornings when you are too tired for these sort of stuff.
Frequently Asked
Stunning is all i can say. Yes its weight is a little over a pound more but it is both much more comfortable and feature rich than the BD. Granted i still use the BD for climbs and skiing but for anything that calls for hiking light weight in comfort the Osprey can not be beat.
