After the Purge, Thomas did not go to the observation room for some time. When he finally did, the first thing he saw on the screen was Newt limping along with Alby helping him. He looked at footage from the day before and pieced it all together, realizing that Newt had climbed up a wall in the Maze and tried to kill himself by jumping off, succeeding only in injuring his right leg. ANYWAYS!!!!! I really loved everything about this book, from the characters to the Maze Trials creating, to the getting dumped on by everybody, to the... 👿 end..... I HATE YOU, JAMES DASHNER!!!!! I HOPE YOU STUB YOUR TOE TTHHRREEE TTTIIMMMEESSSS!!!!!!!!!! A few months after the Purge, Thomas is sent to a desert called "the Scorch" to test a Flat Trans, a teleportation device, and is introduced to Jorge and Brenda, who indirectly reveal that the Gladers must go through the Scorch as the second phase of the Trials. Thomas has come to believe that a cure will never be possible, feels that his friends are then suffering unnecessarily, and vows to save them. In another dream, Mark and Trina follow Alec to where Lana, Darnell, the Toad, Misty, and a boy named Baxter are waiting for him. Alec explains that the Sun Flares have melted the polar ice caps, which will cause a tsunami to hit New York City. Their goal is to reach the Lincoln Building before the tsunami hits and drowns them. As they enter the newer subtrans section, they end up in a fight with some punks until a monstrous wave of filthy water enters the substrans section. ES QUE ACABA DE CAMBIAR TODO SOBRE LA TRILOGÍA PRINCIPAL!!!!!!!!! ¡NO SÉ CÓMO DEBO SENTIRME AHORA! LITERALMENTE ESTOY GRITANDO DESDE HACE COMO UNA HORA...ESTOY TODAVÍA GRITANDO CADA VEZ QUE PIENSO EN ESE FINAL.

As they spend the night a few miles from the village, Mark has another dream. Someone is chasing him and Trina in the subtrans system. They go into an old storage closet and discover three men, who make threats against Mark and Trina. The stranger comes in and beats up the three men. i feel like this book was the missing piece in this story but it still left me with so many questions that i need answered. I've been waiting for another prequel like this that answered my questions from the trilogy and i wasn't disappointed of course. We also get a version of Newt we've never had the pleasure of meeting before (a much more joyous and cheerful one) which made my heart ache terribly on more than one occasion... because this boy *clenches fist, wipes away tears* is so strong and courageous despite all the shit he's been through and ugh, I love him so freaking much (but what's new(t)?). I'm usually not the one to applaud authors for pretty much dumping all the #tragedy and all the #pain and #suffering onto one (1) single character (especially if the character in question is queer and the story taps into the 'gay suffering' aspect, Newt already falls victim to the 'bury your gays' trope, so there's that), but hey, otherwise Newt wouldn't be the best and most fleshed-out character in this series, so... kudos (nevertheless, it's not unproblematic). For an ardent dystopian fan such as myself, ‘The Maze Runner’ series is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only are there three books in the original trilogy, but two full-length prequel novels. I loved how the group sneaks around the building to discover and learn new things (and get in trouble lol) Thomas begins to watch his friends covertly through the "Beetle blades" and sees one of the boys, George, suddenly go crazy and try to kill his friends, only to be killed by Alby. Dr. Ava Paige explains what happened to George and reveals that the Grievers have a virus similar to the Flare. She places the cure for it among the Box of supplies, but the cure is at its early stages. If you finished this, I genuinely pray for the immaculate number of brain cells that you lost doing so. You would do better banging your head against a wall repeatedly. But also thank you so much!! See you on the next one!! But it was also super sad to read their names, and every single time I read their names, I died a little inside... ESPECIALLY MY BUDDY!!! ESPECIALLY TOWARDS THE END!!!!Anyway, Teresa was awesome and I'd be here for a Teresa-centred prequel that has nothing to do with good ole' whiny Thomas (it's funny: for someone who absolutely despises Thomas, I sure have a lot of ships including him) but I guess we can't have nice things. Though: James Dashner does suffer a little from J.K.Rowling syndrome (didn't he just announce another Maze Runner book called The Maze Cutter or some other silly title?), and we did get The Death Cure from Newt's PoV recently, so maybeeeee... Who knows. The cover of this book is similar to The Maze Runner cover with The Fever Code showing the Maze in the process of being created. Right before they were sent in, Thomas went to say his goodbyes. His friends, who had been tolerating the idea of being sent in up until then, suddenly realized that Thomas and Teresa were not going in with them, and they felt betrayed.
