WEIRD AND WONDERFUL FACTS ABOUT Roald Dahl He was very tall – six feet five and three-quarter inches, or nearly two metres. The story flows well and the characters work well together to forge a strong story and decent collection of morals and lessons that are threaded throughout.

Considero-me uma pessoa bem formada, mas no melhor pano cai a nódoa, e o meu podre é um duvidoso sentido de humor.Arriving at this spacious parcel of land, all four find a way to assist the Duke around his estate before discovering a jewel heist taking place within the manor house. I have heard of a fish-pie and a fish-cake and a fish-finger, but I have never heard of a fishmonger. A tale in which a giraffe with a magic neck, a pelican with a retractable beak and a very agile monkey form the world’s finest Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company, along with their friend Billy, the Duke and Duchess of Hampshire and the Cobra, the cleverest and most dangerous cat-burglar in the world.

Dahl went on to create some of the best-loved children's stories of the 20th century, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and James and the Giant Peach.

When he was fourteen he had a terrible accident and had to have his left arm amputated – but, in spite of missing a hand, he always managed to tie his own shoelaces. Things go smoothly when they get there until, while cleaning the bedroom windows of Henrietta the Duchess, the Giraffe and the Monkey spot a burglar attempting to steal the Duchess's jewels. One day, he finds that the old building has been renovated and has become the head office for The Ladder less Window-Cleaning Company. That’, added the chauffeur in a voice filled with awe and respect, ‘was written by His Grace the Duke of Hampshire in his own hand.

His stories also brought him three Edgar Awards: in 1954, for the collection Someone Like You; in 1959, for the story "The Landlady"; and in 1980, for the episode of Tales of the Unexpected based on "Skin". I climbed out of the Pelican’s beak and the kindly old Duke took me by the hand as we all walked towards the house. Many were originally written for American magazines such as Ladies Home Journal, Harper's, Playboy and The New Yorker, then subsequently collected by Dahl into anthologies, gaining world-wide acclaim. Just a nice, delightful quick read for any child or adult, and I'm sure any competent child could definitely handle it alone. It wasn’t long before we came to the gates of Hampshire House, and as the Giraffe moved slowly up the great wide driveway, we all began to feel just a little bit nervous. The moral of ‘The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me’ is that we all have talents we can use to help others. I couldn’t begin to imagine who would want a tremendous tall door like that in his house unless it was a giant. Quentin Blake's first book, Patrick, was published in 1968 and was followed by classics such as Mister Magnolia, All Join In, and Clown. I climbed into the big orange beak, and with a swoosh of wings the Pelican carried me back to his perch on the window-sill.

The police arrive and arrest the thief, whom the Chief of Police announces is the notorious Cobra, the world’s best and most dangerous burglar. Since he is the owner of the only tinkle-tinkle tree plantation in England, as well as thousands of walnut trees and an enormous salmon river (the River Hamp), all three starving animals have found the answer to their dilemma. Make a ‘Wanted’ poster to encourage people to look out for ‘The Cobra, the cleverest and most dangerous cat-burglar in the world’. Billy is free to frolic and find his way, dashing off to an estate with three random animals, where they eventually clash with an armed robber.

When Billy reopens The Grubber he chooses to sell sweets made by the Willy Wonka company, which features in Dahl's earlier novels Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. The story tells of easy friendships, adventure and finding something you're really good at even if it might not be what other people picture you doing - and doing it with gusto. Look over there, my dear Giraffey, and you will see the only plantation of tinkle-tinkle trees in the entire country!
