About this deal

The Holocaust was propagated on the beliefs that Jews and other “undesirables” were different in some way from the perfect Aryan race.

Contrairement aux autres prisonniers, elle est mise les premiers temps dans une partie du camp "vitrine" où elle peut conserver ses habits et cheveux. Those novels stick with you when you take a break from reading, you could be in the shower or running to catch the subway and the novel is still haunting your thoughts. I was satisfied with this book, as a librarian myself I enjoyed reading about an unknown side story in the Holocaust that focuses in books, while the story happened in a tragic background ( a German concentration camp) , it focuses in how the main character “Dita” was able to hide books from the Germans while in the camp and help kids learn from them as long she could .Dita's story was written with compassion and understanding, but what I appreciated most was that it wasn't too graphic. Hirsch enthused them about Zionism; he trained them in sport; and he also got them to perform plays which were performed in front of the SS. The perspective shifted constantly between characters, although Dita’s was the POV that occurred most frequently.

The Librarian of Auschwitz is a young adult fiction novel based on the true story of Dita Kraus, who was only 13 years of age when she and her parents were sent to the Terezin ghetto, and then to the only "family camp" of the Auschwitz-Birknenau extermination camp in Poland during the Nazi invasion.Iturbe's remarkable account uses an immediate present tense to immerse readers in Dita's story as she goes about what constitutes daily life in Auschwitz, all the while risking everything to distribute and hide the library's books. They were assigned to the family camp and as all were assigned to work, Dita went to work in the school. The librarian of Auschwitz is based on the experience of real-life Auschwitz prisoner 14 year old Dita Kraus, who risked her life to keep the magic of books alive during the holocaust.

Books - a contraband punishable by death - are used to teach the children in unit 31, to escape the harsh reality and feel a sense of normalcy.I was so interested in learning about this time period and the hardships that families went through. For readers of The Tattooist of Auschwitz and The Choice: this is the story of the smallest library in the world - and the most dangerous. But it isn’t written in a way of ‘you have no idea how lucky you are now’, it’s subtle and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since I (sadly) finished it. Aroca captures the Nazi invasion in a series of panels: first boots, then motorcycle wheels, then soldiers, then the swastika flag. For readers of The Tattooist of Auschwitz and The Choice : this is the story of the smallest library in the world - and the most dangerous.
