About this deal

I truly cannot recommend this book enough, and if you follow me on TikTok and Instagram, apologies in advance because this is all I'll be talking about for the next few months. If You Still Recognise Me centres on Elsie – having just finished her exams, her future is looming but she’s happy to (hopefully) have a summer of fun.

If You Still Recognise Me follows Elsie, an 18 year old bisexual girl, on a journey of self discovery and. An epic fandom, a scavenger hunt for a lost love and an ode to cultural inheritance – this is a wonderfully heartfelt and joyously queer romance.I did find the book to be quite predictable - I wasn't particularly shocked or surprised by any of the plot points, it went very much the way I expected it to. This wonderful book is both a tender coming-of-age romance and a tapestry of queer identity that spans oceans, generations, and stages of life . Overall though, I think this was slightly too YA for me to fully enjoy, as I'm not the biggest fan of it. Relationships and crushes move fast, that quick pace is not really my cup of tea either, but I still really enjoyed the book overall and would 100% recommend it to readers looking for a contemporary summer read! This is an absolutely beautiful coming of age story that seems like it deals with a lot, but… it doesn’t feel like a lot.

This books features such a big queer cast and I honestly learned to love every single one of these characters.

I loved how we not only saw LGBT teenagers but also adults and elderly people too, again giving this book some fantastic depth and representation. This little book managed to contain so much comfort, love and as warm as beloved friend's hugs words I can't even count properly. I thought this story was going to be a light, cheesy romance and I was pleasantly surprised by how this book was so much more than that.

the inexplicable connection that we just feel, right away, to some people, when with the vast sea of humans we have to work hard to get anywhere at all. Both a time capsule of mid 2010’s fandom culture and a heartwarming childhood friends to lovers story starring QPOC, If You Still Recognize Me explores so much in a short amount of page time.We had lesbians and gays and ace and people who didn’t have a label and people who were just trying to figure themselves out. Fandom spaces are so important to the queer community because for a lot of us, it was the first place we saw ourselves represented and the first place where we got to talk to people who felt the same as us. It’s included in the story in such a lovely way, that will deeply echo to anyone who has ever been a part of a fandom. A beautiful story of cultural identity, friendship, and the dizzying and exhilarating experience of young love. There’s travelling with her best friend, finding a job she loves, meeting new people, keeping up with her favourite comic, chatting to her internet friend-turned-crush.

We can see how much Elsie cares for her favorite comic, how it shapes a lot of her conversations, her passion for it really shines through.luscious writing that leaves you aching with feelings, an ode to comics, storytelling, romance and fanfic, absolutely bursting with brilliant queer girls. It follows Elsie who has a crush on her internet best friend and is planning on making a big gesture to show her friend that she likes her. This wonderful book is both a tender coming-of-age romance and a tapestry of queer identity that spans oceans, generations, and stages of life … Suffused with queer wistfulness and the ache to be known, So’s debut is as intimate and revelatory as the first touch of a first crush’s hand.
