About this deal

I just recently got into the band gorillaz and was so excited to learn more about the lore and the story and everything I was quite disappointed when I found that the hardcover book is so expensive. As far as I can tell, this at least gets all the content right, even if the experience of leafing through that beautiful hardcover is lost. It is, absurdly, the fictional autobiography of a virtual band, with fabulous graphic artwork and comical interviews.

It's really a piece unlike any other and it is such a shame there's no sequel (even if the Gorillaz Almanac seems to be in a somewhat similar vein). Initially an iTunes exclusive, one part was released every week for four weeks beginning 4 December 2006.At the front of the book, there is a ‘Demon Disclaimer’ stating the information is not all true, ‘especially the stuff Murdoc says’.

The original idea for the book was to be a compilation of all press interviews with Gorillaz from phases one and two. Signed by Cass and Hewel, with the original fake library pouch~~VG+/VG 1st ed 2006 hardback, unclipped DJ.

Rise of the Ogre is the autobiography of Gorillaz, written by Cass Browne and illustrated by Jamie Hewlett and Zombie Flesh Eaters. I bought a used version a whole 7 years after it was published for a total of 28 pounds which is a bargain considered this book sells for more than 70 in some instances. However, the audiobook remains incomplete, as only the first few chapters of the book were ever narrated. The back cover of the book features Jamie's interpretation of what all of the band would look like combined.

But it's easy to see the underlying notes throughout the book give little hints and glimpses of the real story, with the real people that brought it together, but it's so subtle you'll kindly smile because they did this so well it doesn't interrupt the pacing of the book at all. But remember you love Kermit the Frog and Gonzo for them, not because it's Jim Henson and Frank Oz moving them. The book details the life-stories of the band-members: Murdoc Niccals, 2-D, Russel Hobbs, and Noodle. It'll be packed full of great shots from the sets of our videos, gigs, rehearsals, interviews…you name it.
